i need ideas...i want a bedside lamp for my boy but touch lamps he will play with and the switch high up will burn up so i have thought about the switch on the cord...but when i look for kids lamps they are way to expensive or i just dont like them...i was gonna make a shade but have no idea how to do it what to use so it wont catch fire.......any suggestions?

Bunnings have some lamps for $10. They are brown ceramic with a shade. I think they have the cord switch down low. You could do a camoflage theme with them with a bit of khaki paint.

I think the key to the flammable issue is to use a low wattage bulb. Most lamps say 60w or below and I think this is due to the fire safety issue. (I think) but it would go for a 40w as they are still bright enough for a lamp and pretty low.

yeah i was gonna use the lowest cause he will probbly leave it on...especially when he first get it....

kmart sell just the bases of you plan to make a shade. the bases have the switches on them as well.

I bought a red ceramic lamp from the warehouse with a plain red shade for DS's room. I covered the lampshade with some of he fabric I used in his bedding, by just wrapping it around the shade and using a hot glue gun to attach it at the top and the bottom of the shade. Was super easy, and looked great (until I knocked it over one day and smashed the base ).

oh no....actually i found this really cool kids craft site from america...it shows how to do princess ones and pirates...im gonna go to spotlight tomorrow and see if i can get some sort of tra9in thingies and if its good ill post a pic
