ive got 998 sick days.... i can certainly use them. we have people off from operations, and people on stress leave for months at a time. thats what its there for.

my only concern is maternity related problems are not really counted? i guess it doesnt hurt asking?
my boss is under heaps of stress at the moment as the new girl they hired to take over me hasnt turned up, and they are having problems "getting rid of her". we are already one down here.
she was asking how i was this morning though and seemed quite concerned yesterday when i told her about the waters. she asked when i was next seeing my midwife. maybe if i wait till tommorow once the midwife writes me out a certificate...
no doubt my boss will ask me tommorow how it all went, so i might be able to chat about my options then.

DH is working tonight and tommorow night, and then hes off in the weekend. im going to go to mums tommorow night, and DH will no doubt take care of me for the weekend. one of my team is back next week so i think i might take next week off as sick leave, but will chat to my boss.

on a good note janaya has been moved to the older childrens class at her school for reading, and has "special" homework for us to do with her every night. im quite pleased with myself as from the moment i found out i was pregnant with janaya i read to her. and every single night i read to her (sometimes i had to force myself!!!!) and it appears its all paid off. so proud

OMG! i just read my contract!!! read the last line!

5.0     Special Leave (Sick, Domestic, Bereavement)

Sick Leave
Sick leave provisions are expressly referred to in employee individual employment contracts/agreements. Managers and employees must check the relevant contract/agreement before the payment of any sick leave. All absences for sick leave must be recorded.

Employees who are sick must notify their manager as early as possible on the first day of absence. Employees must keep their manager advised of their need for further leave.

When an employee is unable to work as a result of sickness or injury the absence cannot be treated as annual leave.

In general terms, a medical certificate is required, stating the period of absence, for leave with or without pay after three (3) consecutive days of absence or where an employee has taken more than five (5) days’ sick or domestic leave in any thirty (30) day period and a medical certificate has not previously been required. However, a medical certificate may be required for any absence.

Where an employee has had to take sick leave in respect of a condition or illness which is likely to prevent the employee from returning to their position in the reasonably foreseeable future, the employer may arrange for a comprehensive medical report to be prepared (at the expense of the employer) to determine the prognosis for return to work by the employee, and will provide a copy of the report to the employee. The report, and any other relevant material or information will be discussed fully with the employee (and, at the employee’s request, with their nominated support network) by the employer before any decision is made by the employer on the future employment of the employee. Each case will be dealt with on its own merits.

Sick leave can be used for pregnancy related issues.

I hope they agree to cover you with sick leave darl. You need to get your feet up.

The way I see it is if I'm not feeling 100% (maternity related or not) I'm "sick". My work is perfectly happy with this and covers those days as sick days.

I know we are entitled to 10 unpaid days of special leave for maternity related things, but I believe this is for appt's etc? I think?

Go Janaya! (And Mummy!) What an achievement. :o)

Hey kaiz, if you need to take time off as sick leave for maternity related purposes they have to cover it. If you can take sick leve for a child of yours, then why the heck not for a baby that is nearly here! I actually checked with our consultants here for you too. I work as a consultant for a finance package, and we have other consultants that work for a pay package, and they have confirmed that maternity illnesses can be taken as sick leave. Kaiz you should have no problem taking a week off for maternity purposes, hey I wonder if you can get your midwife to fill in a doctors certificate for you to take leave up until your due date, its only 8/9 weeks and if you have 998 days available well then thats heaps and would give you a well deserved break. Is there any option for you to do a bit of work from home, can you conect to your office computer from home?

Oh Kaiz! I know how you feel about the money thing hun! We are in the same boat. I would give anything to finish earlier or even go down to part time but its just not that easy is it. My DH worries about money too and gets a bit stressed out whenever I talk about finishing a bit earlier or about how long to have off before I go back to work. I know he loves us and wants the best for us but its hard not to worry about money when you dont have alot!

Take all the sick leave you can hun, theres no shame in it! In fact I am going to take a sick day tomorrow cos Im knackered and sore. I guess at the end of the day you cant worry about how you being away is going to affect things at work no matter how loyal you feel because you are the most important.

The midwife did want me to stop work ideally - i was crying to her about how its not really an option for me. but now i guess it is! she said it sounds like i am a bit of a mess and i need a good break. only problem is im supposed to train the new girl... id hate to leave here with everyone at work hating me! But its good to know that once i do that i can get her to write me a certificate. i can see the light!

Mikki - thanks for checking for me, im sure haemorhoids, stretched/ripped muscle, hind waters leaking, backache, extreme hunger, extreme tiredness and overheating is surely sick related?!
and yup, i can work from home if they set me up for it. that ran through my mind this morning.

I'm glad its working out for you Kaiz, we want to see you keeping well.

Off the current topic quickly (sorry)...

I just posted in General Chat that Kmart are having 20% off Bub2B range til 27th Feb and Jeans West have just bought out a new Maternity Denim! They have two styles to choose from and would make a great treat. $69.99 each or 2 for $99.

hi everyone, hey kaiz how you feeling today?

Well we had our second antenatal class last night and watched a basic birth video - but the lady just didn't seem to be in enough pain!

Last night I had the absolute worst night. Went to bed around 10pm and woke up first at 12.30am with the most horrible pains in my stomach wondered if maybe i need to go toilet, as have yet again been a bit constipated but sat on the loo for a bit and nothing, but noticed that just getting up and out of bed made me feel heaps better, but it was only 12.30am so went back to bed, i could not get comfy, had constant back pain and stomach pain through out the whole night felt like really bad period pain, and extreme heavyiness of my belly. and it didn't help that for the first time ever bubs was awake most of the night. I was almost in tears i couldn't lie on my side, back seems to be more comfortable but then it would get uncomfortable. Got up this morning feeling so tired, still got cramps but not as bad, maybe its cause i'm constipated but i would have thought that standing up wouldn't make that go away. Anyway I have my exam at 12.30pm today which I need to pass otherwise its another $205 then I might go home after that, the whole top of my tummy under my ribs is hard, bubs isn't kicking so much anymore but more pushing movements, so top of my tummy where her bum and feet are gets heaps of pressure, not too mention down below where her head is, i felt like she might drop out yesterday!

DH even got up during the night and went and slept in the spare bed cause apparently I was snoring too!

Anyway enough complaining from me today, I really must study now.

Hope everyone has a good day, and hopefully you all had better sleep than I did.

oh thats no good mikki, especially the night before an exam! i think that kind of pain in the night is so horrible, because you know you HAVE to get to sleep for work, and you try desperately to get to sleep. good luck for your exam...

I feel bad now, i had a BEAUTIFUL sleep! Me and janaya climbed into bed just after 8pm, and i drifted off shortly after that and woke up slightly when DH arrived home, but managed to drift straight back to sleep until 7am this morning! My stomach is feeling so much better today. My back is still sore though.

I had my MW appointment yesterday, was a really long one which was great... she couldnt pick up bubs heartbeat, she was giggling away to herself.. she got me to roll over and had the doppler thing just above my pubic hair and managed to pick up his heartbeat there!
anyway, she said bubs is in a very very posterior position, the back of his neck is snuggled nicely into the flicky thing at the bottom of my back (tailbone?) and the back of his head is right where all those nerves start, so she said its no wonder i am in so much pain.
shes going to do some acupuncture, but wont until 36 weeks (perhaps itll bring on labour?) and in the meantime i have to see a special pregnancy physiotherapist, as well as walking, being on all fours etc etc. she also thinks ill need a brace as my muscles are really weak, which is probably why they feel like theyve torn.
The midwife also said i need to have some time off to look after myself, start an exercise regime etc. oh and im low in iron too!

Going to my mums tonight, shes going to cook for me and mind janaya while i rest.

hey mamawendz.. i think i remember you from nzweddingplanner? are you the one who had mr whippy at your wedding?

Hey Miki, Good luck with your exam today. It must be so stressful, especially being 7 months pregnant too, try and relax a little if you can. (I know, easier said than done). But let us know how it goes asap!!

Do you think you might have had a bad night because you were a little stressed about today?

Hey Kaiz, I am originally from NZWP but didn't have Mr Wippy at my wedding. hehe How cute though!! I got pregnant with Layla-Mei during our engagement though so was one of those first few ladies who started off those "baby threads" in NZWP. Then they grew and grew and then we all came over to Ohbaby!

Last night I cleaned out the girls play room, which is also going to be baby's room when he/she arrives.

Have any of you set up your nursery yet? I need to buy a new cot & change table this time. We have a bassinett to get us through the first 6 months though so not so bad. I wondered if I should start setting up baby's nursery now?

doh! Sorry mamawendz. i do remember you though, the name and even your babies names sound familiar. did you get married in the end?

Mikki midwife didnt really say much at all, i asked her and she said she is sure it was just urine. she said if it was the hind waters it would renew itself and heal itself anyway.

Ive done most of the nursery - waiting for this damned couch to sell though so we can buy some drawers and finish the room off! I plan on finishing it off once i finish work. i still cant quite get my head around the fact that i am going to have a baby! Im sure im going to go into shock when i finally meet this bubs!

hey mamawendz, any "feelings" about what this baby is going to be?

Yeah Im pretty sure I remember your name too actually. My signature was always 'Young Love' if that rings a bell? And yup, got hitched in November '06. 5 months after Layla-Mei was born. We'd always had that date set and managed not to postpone it. Worked out perfectly.

I think I should atleast purchase and get DH to put together the cot & changetable asap. Then I can fiddle around with the room properly when I finish up work too?

My "feeling" is BOY! I really think it is, but I thought Layla-Mei was too. hahaha But I still think boy.

You sound like you're having a better day Kaiz?

Well I failed my exam again! funny i got the same percentage as last time but i improved on the area i screwed up last time, and did worse at the areas i did better at last time! anyway am not stressed about it, i have more important things on my mind at the moment! so am going to relax for a bit and do the exam again when i am on maternity leave that way it will keep me busy as well.

I can't believe we only have 1 month and 29 days to go! dh told me this mroning i look huge, and i still have a whiel to go, hope she not going to be too big! I am really worried about that.

mamawendz don't think the pain last night was because of stress, as i actually wasn't too worried about it, i just wanted it over with, i just think maybe it was an uncomfortable night! probably one of many yet to come.

hey ladies, sorry i have been absent the last couple of days. i have been sooo sore and tired.

kaiz-hope everything works out!!

i think i remember you mamawendz from nzwp-i was holz over there, the one with the massive family(in law) dramas.

we moved our bed into the lounge last night, as that will be pretty much the nursery for the girls. i have given up hope on us gedtting another house on the farm. im over the promises that ammount to nothin. i pick up the hire bassinets on the 6th or 7th of march, and i pick up the change table i bought off tm on the 13th and thats pretty much the last of the stuff i 'need'.oh i still havent got a nappy bag. not that i will be going out much anyway. its a mission trying to go anywhere with tash let alone going out with tash and baby twins!!

df pointed out to me last night that i am considered full term at the end of next month and its nearly the end of this month.i had a moment where i just freaked out and i am not actually mentally prepared for two babies. especially one with a heart problem.

Hey,How is everyone?
Im home from work today, I havent been feeling the best,Lots of tummy bugs going round and i think I may have got one.Im also really tired, last night we were in bed had been asleep for a few hours when i woke to hear water pouring inside the house, I got up and half the flat was an inch deep in hot water, water was running down the walls and from the roof, I rung my landlord who couldnt come fix it so at 1am we were out on the street turning the mains off, and mopping up the flat, in the process things like the tv and dvd were soaked,Turns out the pipe in the roof exploded or something with to much pressure.
My baby shower is next weekend, then i finish up work two weeks later. I would love to finish up right now but its definatley the money thing.Maternity leave is not long enough.

I hope everyone has a relaxing weekend
