I reported Maternity Direct to Consumer Affairs and Scamwatch (they actually gave me the link to this site). Apparently they are aware of issues with this company but they don't have investigative or enforcement powers to deal with them. The best they can do is warn others. I have also written to Fair Go. I would encourage others to write to Fair Go, if they run a story it would be a good way to enlighten other people about these rip off artists.
Scamwatch advised me that you can go through the disputes tribunal, however, you need a physical address for the seller to do this (me thinks this is why maternity direct only list a P.O. Box?!), and there are fees involved.
I will be contacting my bank to try to have the charges reversed.

you can get the physical address from the list of registered companies in NZ. They are a registered company and submit annual reports. there are two addresses, one appears to be the owners residential address and the other appears to be the business. Google maps has photos of each of these.
I have just received the goods that i ordered and they didn't even bother to put anything anywhere that shows they came from maternity direct. there was no tracking number, no invoice, no delivery docket, no labels (except those in chinese). In fact it looked so dodgy that Aust Post opened the package up and examined it thoroughly!!!
As if that is not enough the bamboo washable nappies are 100% polyester according to the label! Not an ecofriendly thread in site!
I did report her to the nz govt sites per the prev messages. I hope that there is some way to stop this fraudulent activity from taking place. Maybe she will even reply to this email to explain why she lied about the bamboo nappies?!? bwahahaha

I wish I had found all these posts three weeks ago! I ordered from maternity direct when pregnant with my first child three years ago and the service was ok (not brilliant, but ok) , so I didn't really think twice about ordering from them this time. But lo and behold, I am experiencing abysmal customer service - well, non existent really. I ordered three weeks ago, payment was taken, a brief confirmation of order emailed to me...then nothing. I have called their phone number everyday for the last week, but there's no answer and no facility to leave a message. And I have emailed three times. No reply. Unfortunately my bank is unable to provide a refund, so my next course of action is to request a refund or the goods within 3 days, otherwise I will report the company to consumer affairs, fair go and scam watch, as per other posters. It is disgusting that they have been allowed to continue to trade after the raft of bad experiences over the past few years.

I wish I'd seen all this as well before purchasing. I''ve been to the bank and am in the process of reversing the payment under dispute for not receiving the goods.

WARNING!!! Don't order from this website. They charged my credit card 2 months ago and I never received my goods. Have been emailing them and at first I got a reply telling me about delays/goods out of stock/anticipated shipping dates but then never heard back again and still no goods after 2 months. Have sent them numerous friendly emails asking politely for an update on the order status, never threatened them or got upset, yet no reply whatsoever. Pretty disheartening and the last thing a pregnant women needs to deal with. Phone number doesn't work. either. BEWARE!!!

TERRIBLE SERVICE! Something needs to be done. Is this company actually supplying product or just ripping all of us mums to be off. There must be some government organisation who deals with this type of scam. I ordered from maternity direct on the 19th February - my purchases valued at $106.00. They debited my account on the 20th February, but I haven't received anything. I tried calling and emailing with no luck. Our new baby is due in a few weeks and I really wanted to have my nursing garments sorted by then! Four pages of complaints - wish I had of done my research first. :(

Sorry I just read back through the comments again - sounds lik if everyone bombed the agencies and Fair Go then something might be able to be done? Because the general trend seems to be that women order - dont receive their goods THEN stumble across this info - she needs to be stopped!

Success!
My wife sent this..
To whom it may concern,
I am writing this email to inform you that under the Consumers Guarantees Act for Goods I will now be seeking legal advice as to how we proceed with the lack of communication and the fact that this order has never been received or refunded. Please see below the conditions of the act.
Goods must arrive in acceptable condition and on time
From 17 June 2014, you must make sure any goods you send or deliver yourself to a consumer arrive in acceptable condition and on time, or within the agreed period. If no time is agreed, you must make sure that delivery occurs within a reasonable time. What is reasonable will depend on the circumstances such as the location of the seller and buyer, the type of goods involved and whether the goods have to be ordered in from elsewhere.
Example: A reasonable consumer would expect a TV they have bought from a local store to arrive within a few days, but if they have ordered a kitchen from a stores catalogue they might expect to wait a few weeks.
Guarantees apply from time consumers receive goods
From 17 June 2014, changes to the definition of 'time of supply’ in the Consumer Guarantees Act mean guarantees under the Act apply from the time consumers receive goods.
These changes increase your obligations under the Act. From 17 June 2014, if you arrange delivery and the goods arrive damaged, you will be responsible for compensating the consumer even if the damage was caused by the courier. You will need to:
be careful about how you prepare goods for delivery and who you contract to deliver your goods have adequate insurance and negotiate an appropriate carriage contract with the carriage company make sure your customers know they need to notify you of any faults within a reasonable time
Your websites states that good will be received within 10 working days after payment. The order and payment were placed on the 4th April 2014. It is now the 4th May and I have had no goods, no correspondence and no refund. Please note you have 5 working days to process a full refund of $*** into the account0 before I seek legal action in relation to the above Consumers Guarantee Act.
with the Subject heading LEGAL ACTION. and we got a reply
Hi
I am not sure if you received our email but sorry we had needed to order your items in but if you would prefer the refund that is no problem at all sometimes our emails go to your junk folder so I am not sure if this has happened to you but am very sorry if it has
If you would like to wait that is fine if you would prefer the refund we can do that immediately we will wait for your confirmation Kind Regards Keryn maternitydirect
Now this arrived at 4am. so I'm not sure they are actually based in New Zealand? (Although their address in in Tauranga
My wife replied and demanded a refund and they processed it immediately. If arrived this morning!
The name was form Shaun O'Brian, so have they switched ownership???

ahhhh!! It looks like this has been going on for years!
I bought from them over a month ago - emailed, emailed, emailed, phoned, phoned, phoned, then emailed a little more asking where my order was. I FINALLY got ONE reply to say that what I had purchased was no longer in stock and would I like it in another color...I said no, I had ordered another elsewhere and that I wanted a refund. Well...it has been TEN DAYS since that email - I have sent another 5...do you think I have received my goods? Nope. Refund? Nope. It is APPALLING!! I googled them again today to get their phone number...and guess what... ALL the links to their website no longer work, and there is just a note that says their site has been suspended!!!! Sounds to me like they've gone into receivership or something! Good riddance too.
These people are absolutely hideous and are definitely milking the system and purposely ripping off people! If they manage to get back up on their feet - do NOT buy from them!!! You WILL be ripped off!
Sooooo not happy that this ugly company is ripping off women who are likely no longer working! Money is precious when you don't have a lot of it! So mad!!

Greer like many wished I had read this BEFORE ordering. Ordered at beginning of May. Got an acknowledgement e-mail. Then nothing for ages. Then an email saying stuff was on back order and did I mind? Well I didn't have a choice did I! Then they emailed to say some items not available now, let down by suppliers, lots of angry customers and had decided to wind up their business (the website has gone btw and I wonder if they were on FairGo?). Still they were sending my parcel and did I want some stick clearance items to account for the stuff they didn't supply. I chose refund but haven't got it yet. Parcel arrived today finally. The leggings and pajamas are Japanese or Chinese imports and the sizes don't fit (the pajamas wouldn't have fit before I got pregnant and I am an average size 12!) - they simply aren't cut for a European size/shape. The leggings are made from a horrible knitted material - not as advertised. Have emailed the women but judging from above comments I don't expect to hear from them. Grrrrr. Can someone reply and let me know if they were covered on FairGo. Thanks Suzanne
