I know. So not my style in the slightest. Way too overdone for me. But then, their baby, their choice as to how they go about it, I guess!

Beautiful photos!..and a lovely story....though I think Nellie has similar eyes to her mum...so at first I never probably would have thougt bubs was DS..without being told. She definitely did look good didn't she!...and definitely organised with the favours and wine......heck I wouldn't even think of doing that lolz.

Cs stepmum and her dad knew from the scan at 20 weeks they were having a boy , Downs wasn't diagnosed until he was 6 weeks, maybe a week older come to think of it .
He has the "look " of a downs baby , but he also looks quite a lot like his brothers, and the other traits that are common in downs babies , poking tongue out a lot , wide gap between big toe and next one etc they didn't know about .
It wasn't until her plunket nurse picked up on his lack of movement at 6 weeks that any concern was made, and even then they had to wait til a blood test contirmed it before they could say for certain .
Scans don't always pick it up , a blood test is certain (after baby is born )

anyway , beautiful story , I just read it again .
So much love, so cool

I could see a lot of similarities between Nella and my cousin who has DS, so could see it straight away (and I guess cos I knew before I saw the pics that Nella has DS than I was looking for it)

Beautiful story though... And such lovely pics.
I love the idea of the favours and stuff I would love to do that (but DH would totally not be into it!!) (hmm and Im a Kiwi, and hes American!!!)

I have been reading that blog for a couple of weeks now and have re read it many times. I have tears everytime.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but it is impossible to tell if a baby has downs from a scan. The nucal fold scan only gives your baby a so called 'risk of downs syndrome'.

yeah , pretty sure thats right .
As I said (in my longwinded post) my daughter's brother on her dads side had plenty of the traits of Downs ,but it still had to be confirmed with a blood test

Yep, a friend of my mothers had the nuchal fold scan done and had a very very low risk of downs, yet her baby was born with quite severe DS.

I was such a blubbering mess through the story, (I never cry usually though things like that!!), the pictures diffenately made it, I loved the bit about the sister's first hug etc...

Gosh, I didnt even have my bag packed...    And I wonder when she was that organised what would have happened if the labour had all turned to custard and not gone to her careful plans??!!
4 boys!! 7 years, 5 years, 2 years and 8 weeks...

what a fanastic birth story so fulled with love and honesty. So lucky to have such a supportive family who loved her and the baby unconditionally and full of acceptance. what a great dad she has who prayed fro her and NElla.

We had a risk of 1:250 with our new baby, We decided to tell our family that there may be a small chance our baby could have DS, DH family were horriffed and shocked and disgusted . I was so mad that they could be so judgemental and unsupportive. They said of course "you'll never have more kids if this one has that". how could they!

It really opened our eyes to how some people can
be so mean, our own family! i was so suprised at their reaction as it was only a small risk.

my family were fine and offered support and love.

Baby was born without DS, but still isn't good enough for DH family who wanted a girl.!

This made me mad/sad because it's their loss, he is wonderful and we are so blessed to have two darling boys.

i'll forward that story onto them, they need to be compassionate and that may help.
