Topic: Blocked Nose/Nasal Spray Posted: 14 March 2006 at 1:23pm |
Can anyone help me with a couple of questions. I have got a blocked nose and sniffly sinuses. have had this for a couple of weeks now on and off. It is really hard to sleep at night.
I read in a book this is linked to pregnancy.
I have got some nasal spray Otrivine that the Pharmacy said was ok but I feel a bit nervous as I am sure some of it goes down back of your throat and gets swallowed. Is it ok to use nasal spray while preg?

I used Otrivin, it is safe as houses for preggie ladies, i used it ALOT as i was blocked up for months. It is really good, and best of all only costs around $7 at the chemist.

a tip to help with it not gong down ur throat is u blow ur nose lightly before u spray and lean ur head foward slightly, inhale thru nose as u spray, then exhale through ur mouth.worked for me as i had otrivine first preg and almost vomitted from the disgusting tatse it left in my throat.

It may help to know that my doctor prescribed me a nasal spray because she said i couldnt take antihistamines while preg and that the only safe alternative was a nasal spray - she said it was totally safe to use. It is called Allinaise or Allanaise I think? I can have a look at home and write the name down an dlet you know if you want?

Thanks so much everyone. Have been having a bad nervous day today. Robyn, I am eight weeks on Thursday.
Does anyone know whether blocked noses ARE linked to preganancy and if so does it last the WHOLE pregnancy or will it go away soon. It is driving me crazy!!!!
Might go to the doctor and get a prescription for Allinaise.
Thanks again for everyones help.

like Ana (newmum) said, it is linked to pregnancy. i also had mine pretty much the whole way through. it calmed down in the second trimester and flared up again toward the end. I suffer from allergies and hayfever as well, so that might be why it lasted so long..
