We are still undecided as to weather we will or will not get our son circumcised (currently we do not know the gender of bubs)....

i know this is a hot debate... and my questions are

where do you go to get it done ??
At what age is it usually done ??
has anyone got wellington contacts ??

Any help appreciated... thank you

Ooh good questions!! GPs don't do it anymore and I couldn't find anyone I could take Jake too and it was so frustrating. I'm still trying to find someone but Jakes getting older all the time and I'm so gutted!

A friend of mine has done both her boys. Both at about 3 weeks I think it was, and they had to go to Waikato Hospital to have it done. Same day procedure and both needed only pamol a couple of times and it was all sorted. The most recent was about 5 months ago.

It it pretty hard to find anyone who will do it as its pretty unethical so unless there are strong medical or cultural reasons it will be difficult (and expensive) to find someone who will do it.

In saying that a friend got her boy done (religious reasons) when she lived in Wellington so there must be someone who does it.

We had our son done but we are in auckland.. Does your MW know or you could ring wellington hospital or maybe southern cross for a list of people. Southern cross covered ours.
It is a hot debate but you know what is right and what you believe so that's all that matters.!

As DH says Men know about that part not us! Which i think is true because i don't have one!!

I sort of wanted to get our son done (DH is circumsised), but I left the decision up to him since he is a boy :-) He wasn't keen so we haven't done it.
If you went to anti natal classes, you could ask there. Ours talked briefly about it and said there were two local guys that did it, but strongly discouraged it. (not her place to force her opinion IMO)

My SIL has recently had her son done and it was at Bowen Hospital (or Wakefield). They paid a few hundred for it under local but you can opt to pay a couple of thousand for them to go under general if you would prefer.

WOW - I didnt realise it would be such a hard thing to get done ??!!

We are still debating the pros and cons... who knows maybe we will have a little girl and not have to make any decisions !!

DH is circumcised.... but he was 12 and has been traumatised by the event ... although he is all for it if we do have a boy....one thing is for surewe will do it younger than later...

many thanks

My brother got his done within a couple of weeks of being born and he didn't even cry but my mum did lol she left dad with him and walked up and down the corridors bawling post-preggy hormones I guess coz she was fully keen to have him done.
I don't know why it would unethical there are alot of health benefits to getting it done. Will give Wakefield a call and see what they say about Jake.
Good luck with whatever you decide with your bubs bun_in_the_oven

ETA abit disjointed

babe- they say there arent health benefits anymore..as boys who aren't dont get any mroe/less infections etc..

in chch it's very hard to find someone to get it done though if it's for religious reasons I think their are special people who do it but yeah it's uncommon these days.. my Dh wanted E done for a while but his only reason was 'to look like him' which wasn't good enough for me!

Have you asked your GP if he can arrange it?.We got our DS circumcised here in Hamilton last year and we mentioned it to our GP and he gave us the names of 2 other GP's here in Hamilton who do it.We were told we had to get it done before bubs was 4 weeks old otherwise they would have to do it under a general. It cost us $190 and we got it back through Southern Cross.

I rung all around Palmy and even got a referrel to the urology dpt at the hospital and they said no too. They don't seem to do it now. I don't know why its so frustrating!
KA boys don't get infections if they're taught to clean themselves properly but there are still heaps of recorded issues with uncircumcised males. Thats not why we want it done though its partly coz everyone in my family has it done and partly coz of our beliefs.

Interesting topic.

DH and I were talking the other day about #2 and if it ends up being a boy.

His words were;
"They just cut it off - straight after birth, before latching onto the breast"
I didn't think he was right.... now I can show him this thread

So I guess it's not as easy as you'd think to have it done. DH will be unimpressed

Babe, it might be worth contacting someone in Auckland and see if they can recommend someone in Palmy.
