I'm confused over what payments (if any) I may be entitled to once baby arrives, and I'm really struggling to navigate the IRD/WINZ sites to find out.   Can anyone help?

I haven't taken maternity left - I resigned from my job and left 2 weeks ago.
(I was 'informed' by someone else that I wasn't entitled to mat. leave as I hadn't been there a year, and also it's a job I knew I wouldn't be going back to anyway)

DH is still working full time. He'd like a couple of weeks off once baby arrives - but it doesn't look as though dads are entitled to any parental leave?

On the IRD/WINZ sites I can find all sorts of information to suit various situations - except mine! Has anyone else been in the same boat?

You ARE entitled to paid parental leave if you've been at your job for 6 months. The difference is that if you've been there for a year then your employer has to keep your job open for a year but if you've only been there 6 months they only have to keep it for you for the 14 weeks of PPL.

I wonder if you can still get it now that you've resigned, you should definitely find out!

Depending on your income, WINZ may be able to help with an accomadation supplement. And with IRD, you'll be intitled to Working for families, the easiest way to get info is to ring them, and they will send you out the relevant paperwork. Depending on income you may be able to get a community services card to help with medical costs. When baby is born, IRD have a special payment to help in the first few weeks as well.

easiest way to find out is to ring IRD. If ur not entitled to mat leave then u should be able to get the tax credit, there are a few things that means u can't get it tho like being on a benefit, being on ACC accident payments for 3 months and a couple of other ones. But ring them to find out.

Oh yeah and if you can't get it (which will suck!) there is a parental tax credit which is a one off payment - you can only get that if you aren't getting PPL.

Father's are entitled to take something like a week or two weeks unpaid leave. Though some employers will pay for paternity leave - dh is getting one week paid paternity leave and taking one week annual leave.

Hi there, just wondering, if woman are allowed 12 weeks PPL, then shouldn't the guy get that if she is not working?

I got PPL when I had my last one, but do remember there was something about shearing with DH, but we didn't.

But if the Mum isnt working then she wouldnt be eligable for PPL so there wouldnt be any entitlement to share .. or am I reading the legislation incorrectly?

I think both parents have to be working and yes, you can specify on the paper work that you want your partner to receive some or all of the PPL from IRD.

You can also split the extended leave if both you and your partner qualify but you have to arrange it ahead of time with the employers.

You cannot get PPL if you are not working but you can get tax credit...it is paid out over four fourtnights.
If you choose tax credit then your DH cannot get ppl...it is one or the other.

You should be able to get PPL except that technically you have to apply before you finish working. So you might need to hurry up and put that in, and perhaps backdate it. Talk with your work about it.

Alternatively you can apply for PTC (which is different from WFF tax credits - you will get those included in the PTC and then continuing on; or you will receive them on top of your PPL). PTC is much lower than PPL though.

Your DH can only get PPL if he is the carer of the baby, as far as I know.

Yes it can be shared, you are entitled to ppl after 6 months employment as I had only been working at my job for 9 months when Ieft and applied for ppl , as you have resigned you will not be able to as you have to give you employer so many weeks notice before if your intention of going on mat leave. You can apply for the parental tax credit though.
