Just wanted to say that everyone I know who tore during labour (and I know two women who had severe 3rd deg tearing) have said that they never even knew they had until they were told afterwards (or realised they were being stitched up) So don't be too worried about that end of things

My first was 9lb 1oz but was a kneeling breech so had to have an elective c-section, but my second was 9lb 8oz and I didn't even get to the pushing stage as he wouldn't come down and I didn't progress past 6CM.
I am 5'6 and at least a size 16. My mum had no trouble delivering two babies naturally, although we were both 7lb something. I don't know what is up with my pelvis, but Jamie couldn't get out of it!

I was 160cm and 55kg before pregnancy. Bubba was 9lb 4oz. I was induced because Jody didn't engage before labour (therefore didn't make me go into labour) but the rest was all pretty standard.
I also had a tear. Didn't need forceps or anything though.
I wish now that I had really studied the Pink Kit to get different ideas on how to avoid tearing.
The BIG issue I had with carrying a big baby was my back was soooooooo sore for a long time afterwards. I couldn't even pick Jody up for the first week or two. I think it was partly due to dropping that weight and losing all the core support for my back. But I think the main thing that munted it was birthing on my back with my legs up. I *really* regret not being a bit more pushy as to what *I* wanted rather than what was easier for the midwives.
Next time I want a water birth.

I had two 9lb babies and had no issues pushing them out.
Janaya basically just slipped out I had an epi with her as I was in labour for 30 hours and needed some sleep.
Jackson was out quick smart as well, I had a semi water birth (Jumped out to push) with a bit of gas through the transition period. I got a small graze internally with both of the births and that was it.
I'm 168cm and was about a size 10 prior to having Jackson.

Gee........is anything over 8.5lbs considered 'big' these days? LOL I thought that was 'average'.
DS2 was 3.9kg(8lb 7oz) and his head was 37cm and I actually found him EASIER to get out than his brother who was 3.2kg (7lb) with a 34cm head. Both mine were fairly quick and DS2 was a home water birth........I did have a tear but it didn't need stitching though the midwife did offer. I barely did any pushing with him, in fact pushing is down as 9 minutes and I think it was about 3 active pushes before he was out; not that any of us realised until DP commented on something he saw and looked down and there was his head. PMSL
I agree with the others that positioning is EVERYTHING, no matter how 'big' or 'little' they are.

Lol, me too
Ollie was 8lb 13oz with 36cm head and I only had a graze with him from his hand (I did end up with a small tear later on from the doctor having to remove his placenta though).
Lilia was 9lb 2oz (or maybe 3oz) with 34cm head and I had no tearing or grazing with her.
Interestingly a friend of mine had 11lb 2oz and 11lb 3oz babies at home in the water with no tearing ... they were her 4th and 5th babies though.
Agree with what the other ladies have said about it being more about baby's and your position during birth.

Me, being a tiny 5ft 0, had a 8lb9 and a 9lb6 no problems, a wee graze with the first one and the second one was fine. Infact I thought the second one's birth was so easy I was really surprised when I found out how big she was.

Yes, a girl I know who is not huge (reasonably tall but thin build) had an 11lb 2oz first baby at home with no pain relief or tearing. She said it was hard work but just fine.
