I let them sleep... I figure, if they require it great! and it gives me a chance to rest a little longer or finish a couple of small jobs. I demand feed the first 6 weeks or so, then stretch it out to a 3-4 hourly routine after that.

I woke all of mine three hourly. With Maya it worked brilliantly, she was a great sleeper and slept thru from 7 weeks.
With the gremlins it was a disaster, they had (and still have) high sleep needs, our Sleep Expert says that is prob due to them being a bit prem and having bad jaundice. If I'd left them during the day they would probably have slept 5+ hours, but I woke them ad as a result at night they would wake and scream for hours on end coz by the end of the day they were overtired and unsettled.
I plan to wake this bubs to feed every three hours but if it doesn't work for her will recognise the signs a lot sooner than I did with the gremlins!

i demand fed both my kids, but as they were good sleepers (jack more than charli), if it got to 3.5hrs and no feed in the day, then i'd wake them

Didn't wake Noah. He was always a really good sleeper and woke fairly regularly for feeding.

I let my girls sleep. I never had the premmie/not gaining weight thing for them so I didn't have to worry. (My kids gained weight or stayed even in the first week lol)

Let him sleep as he liked, and demand fed him until about when he went onto solids. He was gaining tons of weight as a newbie, so there was no worries there.

Had to wake Lily 3 hourly as my milk supply took 10 days to come in and I needed her help to get it going. feed times were - 6am, 9, 12, 3, 6 9-10pm ish, then a wakeup around 2-3ish.
She never woke more than once a night till she got older and had the teeth issues etc, and now sleeps through no worries.

I fed Tom on demand bu wouldnt let him go any longer than 3hourly through the day. He was free to sleep as long as he liked at night. I have only just let him sleep as long as he likes during the day in the last month....no I would still wake him if he was going too long...well I "hint" at waking him...I start doing things in his room etc. WTF he just woke up?

I had to wake Keziah 3 hourly as she was really badly jaundice and would have slept the day away otherwise. Nowadays she can barely last 2.5 hours without the boobie so I'm thinking I might try formula starting next week to see if that improves |

I just wanted to qualify why I started waking Hannah. I originally let her sleep, but then she would wake reeeally hungry, gulp down as much milk as fast as she could and get a really windy tummy. Then would be screaming for milk 1/2 an hour later I made sure to wake her so she wouldn't try to 'catch up' as it was driving me bonkers!!
 Anyway, just to explain |

I used to to wake up Gina 3 hourly during the day at the begining and let her sleep until she woke up at night. She got into that routine very quickly so I hardly ever had to wake her up - and I was relaxed and waited for 4 hours if need be to let her sleep.
ETA: she's been sleeping thru the night for ages unless she's not feeling well ie teething/colds

I have never woken my kids. I was advised to with Jeremy since his weight gain was so slow, but I could never bring myself to do it.

I had to wake James every 3 hours for the first 3 weeks as he was jaundice and lost quite a bit a weight after birth then 4 hourly after that we left him to it at night and then at 6 weeks I started feeding him on demand.
