Liz - Being a teacher I can safely say...I don't really like kids either ROFL most of my kids have "loved" me though (mind you primary school kids LOVE every teacher they have and dump you like a hot potato as soon as they move up a year, lol)

All the best for today.

Good Luck Liz, am sure everything will be fine once you get into the swing of it.

Rabbit Proof Fence would be a good movie to study, lots of good discussion points....but a word of advice - if its a fairly stauch christian school, I would maybe "run it past someone" first, its so easy to offend people or be seen to be teaching something other than the "principles" of the school. My mum works at a christian school and I know that they have to be pretty careful to not get complaints from parents. At their school they banned the Harry Potter books as they thought that witch-craft etc was not a good thing for children to be exposed to, I think thats a bit OTT personally, but its their school...so they can do what they like I gues....sorry off topic....anyway, prob best to just check with someone first! Save yourself any future grief!

Sheesh, difficult! The christian schools I know haven't been christian at all! (Well, the kids atleast!)

I'm sure you will be great Liz. Seriously. I think you are hilarious enough that the kids will be well taken with ya. It's the ones lacking a sense of humour that I really worry about!

Let us know how it goes!

At high school we had an awesome teacher for the movie side of things.. we studied the matrix, the green mile and shawshank redemption. Shawshank was by far the easiest to study, there was sooooooo much to write about.

Shawshank is a great movie.

So looking forward to hearing about it tonight Liz, if you need to debrief I have plenty of wine here

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

Check all those movies Liz, as a new teacher you want to run everything you do by the bosses until you have a proper feel for it. i would have said Howl's moving castle too, but again it is a witchy movie, so may not be suitable.

They may have rules on ratings - a lot have had m ratings that have been suggested, that may not be allowed.

BTW, i also don't really like kids. And I ama grumpy bag, but that is seperate to teaching. SOmething makes it different somehow!

yeah, i plant to run everything past the HOD. there was one fanatical grandfather who protested to his granddaughter reading anything but the bible - apparently novels are the work of the devil - but she's been pulled out now so should be okay.

todayu went well. no classes so brilliant! bvut everytime i went past the assistant principal I got a new job - so have gone from part-time to very fulltime. Also have been given a laptop. But am less freaked and more excited now so thanks everyone for your support! will post more tomorrow night! that will be the real test!
