Topic: Farkin Idiots on the road! Grr Posted: 24 January 2009 at 10:00pm |
We experienced a VERY close call the other day, with some a$$hole boy-racer nearly taking us out at full speed.
We were coming up to an intersection (now for those of you from South Auckland/Papakura, we were travelling up Grove Road about to turn right onto Walters Road), about 20-30metres from the intersection, 70k zone some idiot comes hooning around the corner driving head on towards us at 100ks IN MY LANE and natural reaction I brake suddenly, he spun out about a metre infront and then the arse of his car only JUST missed the front of us by a couple cms IF THAT! By this stage I was sh*tting myself, next thing I know he starts revving up and accelerating and he started zig zagging all over the road and nearly took us out again on the side Lucas was sitting, again missing us by a small fraction and then he was swerving all over the road behind us (zig zagging) and other cars behind us were forced to swerve and hastily pull over to the side. It all happened too fast for me to get his plate, all I know is that he was white male, driving a black modified car. Not sure if it was intentional (suspect it was, gets his thrills from scaring the crap outta people), if he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol - I'll never know.
We slowly carried onto the intersection, I carried on driving hoping it wasn't some random attack and he was going to come back for more (to me, it really seemed like he was out to try and take us off the road, judging by his manouvres), we got into Ardmore where I pulled over in my shaken state and just burst into tears (yes, pathetic I know but i really thought it was all over). Lucas was in hysterics by this stage, we had to stop suddenly and I think the sound of the guys exhaust/burn outs etc scared him too.
I drove back home, stuff our supposed beach trip, I am reluctant to drive now. This was only a matter of 2 mins away from our place, I got my full licence only a matter of 2-3 weeks ago and now I'm terrified of driving.
F*%king bastard! If I hadn't of stopped when I did, or had of been going faster than I was ...what gives them the right? No consideration, it would have been bad enough if it was just me in the car, but with my son in it too ...
I keep going over it in my head.
Anyone else had a similar experience? Especially those of you living in the same area? My father reckons he had some guy of similar description also in black car come out of nowhere on popes road one night and circle him and do the zig zag thing too, nearly driving him off the road. And last night on Porchestor Rd someone went into a powerpole, a completely flat straight road ...wouldn't be surprised if the same bastard caused them to go off the road!

Yeah I live in Papakura not too far from there. I'm pretty sure I've seen the same car too a little while ago - from a distance though not close enough to have the sort of experience you did ( you poor thing ). I used to live on Porchester Road - sooo many effin idiots go up and down there too! And it's not unusual for powerpoles to be hit down there. Hope you're not too shaken by the experience hun. It's understandable you're sh*t scared of driving - I would be too - and I've been driving for 10 years. Try not to think about what could've happened, but focus on how well you handled the situation and that you and your boy and just fine. Hopefully some other driver has managed to take down his number plate and the police are onto him by now.

I think you should still contact the cops about it. You might find they already know who he is and they can pay him a visit.

I would contact the cops anyway. Any information could be useful. Dana's right - they may know exactly who that clown is.
As for driving - yep it's scary but you've just got to stop the 'what ifs' and get back out there. I know easier said than done. (The main reason I didn't get my restricted until last year was because twice when I was doing lessons we were first on the scene of high speed crashes.) But you can't let all that hard work go to waste for some clown - otherwise he gets to influence your quality of life permanently.
Oh and I would have totally burst into tears too - what an A-hole! Hopefully when he finally offs himself (and he will and the world will be a better place for it) he does it on a lonely road where he can't injure anyone else.

I hate boy racers.. I really really hate them.
You poor poor thing! I agree with everyone, call the cops anyway. Cars should be seen as weapons in my opinion.
We have a grove opposite our house and its FULL of idiot boy racers, they are always doing burn outs and driving down the street at ridiculous speeds. One day I want to egg their cars or let down their tyres, the cops dont do anything!
I also had a boy racer chase me home once. He was driving right up my bum down the street so I slowed right down. Then he drove on the other side of the road and wound down his window so I sped up, he chased me all the way home and as I pulled up the drive he reversed and came at my car at 50kms and slamed on the brakes at the last minute. Gosh it was awful. And I was in such a panic I didnt even take his licence plate.

That sucks! Poor you & Lucas. I agree - call the cops anyway - it might just add to what they already know. I agree with Kaiz 231 that cars should be seen as weapons. Glad you're both OK and don't let it put you off driving as you handled it well.

what a f*cking idiot, sorry for my language , call the police Steph, some of the other people may have got his license plate and have already called, the police may need to get more of a description , so yours could help .
He deserves to have his license taken off him quite frankly , its idiots like that , that kill innocent people.
Don't let him scare you off driving , there are always going to be idiots on the road like that , it doesnt mean you have to sacrifice all the work you did to get your license, you were so proud when you got it .
You obviously know how to deal in a situation like that , and you did your job -you kept Lucas safe.
The only thing Ive witnessed that comes close is a guy driving through a crowd of people , hitting 3 people (one a friend) then coming back and hitting another girl (who died instantly , as did my friend) -again , another idiot on the road, its a pity some people ever get their license .
*hugs to you * , don't let that cretin ruin something you've worked hard for chick

Steph. How scary for you! Sounds like you handled it really well though
Have you called the police?? Wouldn't it be great if you could give them what they needed to get the guy

The stupid thing is he probably has already lost his licence for doing the same thing and is driving round disqualified and has thousands of dollars worth of fines he's paying off at $5 a week. These idiots are always on the road. The best thing you can do is keep driving. By you not driving the has won.
By the way I find old people are worse drivers than the boy racers.

Oh steph!! You poor thing!!! **hugs**
Ive had the same thing happen, it was about 5 years ago and i was driving back from pukekohe at about 11 at night by myself. These idiots in a white car started following me out of town and they would pass me beep their horn then pull over and wait for me to pass then do it again, they did burn outs in front of me and then they stopped and blocked me from going past them, Ive never been so scared in my life!!! I managed to get passed their car and I sped down the road, i was in the middle of nowhere but as soon as i saw a drive way I pulled in, the followed me, and sat in their car idolling(sp?) and I was SOOO scared, I didnt kow what to do, so I got out of the car and ran to the house Id pulled into and banged on their door screaming for help, thank god someone answered the door, they didnt want to let me in to start with but when they saw how scared and upset I was they let me in and then saw these dickheads do a huge burn out out of their driveway and speed off.
When i got into the house I coulnt even stand my legs were jelly and i was hyperventerlating(sp?). The nice lady got me some water and I called my dad, and then my friend who was still playing pool at the pub.
My dad drove in front of me and my friend behind until we got home.
I REALY think these guys were going tot ry and run me off the rode and hurt me/rape me, because they didnt stop chasing my car, even when i got to that house the sat in their car to see if somone would let me in!
makes me feel sick to my stomach thinking about it, so if something like that happened and I had caden with me, I dont knwo what i would do.
Definitly ring the police steph, DEFINITLY, the police told me I should have called 111 right away cos I had mt cell phone with me, but I panicked and didnt think.

What a freaking clown and how scary for you Especially with Lucas in the car.
A fool lost control coming round the corner just as I was pulling out, luckily I heard the car coming so I stopped in my driveway but if I hadn't he would of hit me. So I followed him back to his house just round the corner to get his number plate. It was obviously his parents house and I was going to write them a wee note but chickened out.
I think the worst thing about boy racers is that they think they are a lot better drivers than they are and can handle their car better than the really can. Whenever one of Bens friends brag about their stupid driving I always ask how they would feel if they killed someones kid. Clowns!!
