Topic: Natural Induction Posted: 05 November 2007 at 12:50pm |
I know there have been threads about this in the past (I have been reading them) but I wanted to know a few things.
1. Peoples experiences with stretch & sweep - do they work first time? MW said my cervix was only medium ripeness, so didn't seem to expect much...
2. MW also recommended EPO on a tampon and then in - has anyone had experience with inducing labour with EPO? Am I better just to stick capsule up with no tampon?
Also, any other ideas much aprpeciated...
Cheers

Stretch and sweeps with Jack were not successful and the midwife thought they would work but didn't
With Caprece she did one and Caprece had popped up (was fully engaged and anterior last visit) and was posterior so midwife didn't think it would work. I went for a big walk after that and had special cuddles and woke up the next day in early labour.
I had been taking epo form 35 weeks and I think it was that that made it work so well since I hadn't taken any with Jack. Apparantly you have more receptors in your tum than down there so swallowing it works just as well as putting it down there.

I never had any luck with my stretch & sweep. But EPO helped soften things to get started for me. I took via mouth & two up "there" I didn't bother with a tampon just pricked a hole in the end of them.

When i was pregnant with gabriel i took EPO (not for the baby thing tho - i had no idea it was used for that) and he was 2 weeks late... i also tried sex at 40 weeks and no go there too...walking, didnt work, hot baths, raspberry leaf tea...had a sweep, several actually, and still nothing, everything bar the curry i think...
IMO they will come when they are ready...
have heard some interesting things about acupuncture tho.

I had 2 S&S but nothing, tried all the other stuff but still nothing, next time I'm going to give acupuncture a go because I've also heard good things about it...
I might add, that usually all these natural induction methods don't work unless your body is 'ready' anyway...(sorry hope I didn't depress you )

Yeah I know that he won't come until he is ready - am keen to try nothing really, I know he will come out eventually. Hardest part is all the people (well meaning family and friends) who keep ringing/texting to find out is baby is here yet...

Hope he arrives soon

I had a s&s with my last but i was 16 days overdue at the time and my midwife could stretch me to 8cms and i was having mild contractions on and off. Went into full labour 24hrs later and he was born the next day. She did give me EPO capsules to insert and take orally but i never did.
My midwife offered to do a s&s on Thursday when i see her but i will only be 2 days overdue so i dont know if it will work.

My S&S's with Kiya and Josiah worked first time (as in, I went into labour a few hours later with Kiya and an hour later with Josiah)... with Xavier I had 3 over about 12 hours, and it wasn't until the 3rd that active labour started (about 30 minutes later).

pretty much as it sounds - they stretch and sweep their finger around... S&S sounds so much nicer...

WEll I had my SS& and nothing has happened so far... I am booked for another one tomorrow, so hopefully he will be feeling more ready.
I have been having period like cramps all last night (every time I woke up I noticed them) so hopefully something is happening...
