Daniel has got into a horrible habit of thinking that 5:40am is his awake time for the day. Man does it suck!!!!

He was going to bed at 6:30pm so we thought that might be early so we changed it to 7-7:30, depending on how long his bath etc is. It worked great the first night, he slept through til 7am, but now he's gone back to 5:40..

He's not hungry, hot, cold, nappy has more room for more pee, nothing is "wrong" with him..

If I try feeding him he only takes like 50mls so now I don't bother, because at 7ish he will take a proper feed.

If I just leave him he sits in his cot and talks to himself until someone gets him up. I've left him for up to just over an hour and hes still there going ba ba ba b a ba to himself. So no one gets any sleep.

I've tried bringing him in with us in hopes he will go back to sleep. Sometimes this works, mostly not though, this morning for example I did this and it took him an hour to go back to sleep

His room is still dark at this hour cause we have a black out shade.

He needs the extra bit of sleep because when you go into him he's still yawning and rubbing his eyes like crazy and still has bags under his eyes. And if you do get him up he only stays up for about half an hour before he gets all grizzly.

How can I get him to sleep a bit longer?

What about white noise? Haven't tried it myself but apparently if you can time something to start making white noise (you can get tapes I think?) about half an hour before they normally wake up, it can carry them through sleeping for a bit longer? A book I found good when DD started doing this was the No Cry Sleep Solution - haven't read the whole thing but took what was relevant to us. DD did this for ages and still wakes every morning at 6.10am but after six we can kind of handle.

Ella also has a bad habit of waking up at 6 (no idea why as she isn't hungry b/cause she still has a feed in the middle of the night). I find that white noise does help when she wake up early- we have gotton into the happen of when she starts calling out at around 5.30/6 I go into her room half asleep and turn the music on and then go back to sleep for another hr. Works about 70% of the time.

White noise never worked that well for us (I already have a cd for it). But I might try that tomorrow morning for a few mornings and see how we go.

Like ya said, anything from 6am is fine, but in the hour of 5 is nasty lol.

What are his day sleeps like. I use the routines in Save our sleep book and it says that babies consider any sleep before 9am as part of there night sleeps. Maybe try keeping him up until 9.30am and then putting him to bed. I know this is hard and he will get grumpy but it worked for Madison.

Good luck, i know that an hour more sleep in the morning makes all the difference

He has 4 day naps usually, they only go max an hour so he doesn't sleep that much during the day

Ugh Stacey, that sucks! I hope that you can get things sorted. I do think we should be heading towards 2 longer naps rather than 4 shorter ones now, so maybe if you try fiddling with the day sleeps the night sleep will go longer?

In the past month our daysleeps have settled down, and she has has a sleep at 9 (only 1 hr),12 and 4 (which I am very happy with). Slightly off topic, but at what age should they be moving to having 2 day sleeps.

Hmmmmm that does suck Stacey, don't think I have anything to suggest. Spencer wakes at 6am I feed him and then put him straight back to bed and he stays there till 8am. But then he is starving when he wakes up and has a massive feed.

Mum2Ella, Spencer has 2 sleeps during the day (if you discount me putting him back down at 6am). He went to bed at 11 and is still sleeping and then will have another sleep at about 4ish for a couple of hours or more.

He's right next door to us. Even if we turn his monitor off he still talks really loud and so we hear it through the wall very very easily.

I never figured this out either. Cohen wakes at 5.30am even after being up twice in the night. DH and I take turns getting up with him - we play for an hour, get the other two breakie etc and then put him back to bed where he stays until 8.30ish.

My other two are early waker's also, but so are my husband and I, just not as early as them. The plus side is that we were never late for school or DC

Are there some safe toys you could put in his cot before you go to bed so that he might play a little quieter for a while before waking you up?

No, we don't put or have any stimulation in his cot apart from his taggie blankie and we want to keep it this way. We want his cot to be known as his place for sleep not play. And he's really noisey with toys anyway and talks to them just as loud hehe. Thanks for the suggestion though

Well this morning we had a little bit of success. He woke up at 5:50. I went and made him a bottle, he actually drank it. Dumped him straight back into bed, shoved the white noise on and in half an hour he did go back to sleep. He got up at 7:20am

Woohoo! I hope that becomes a regular thing for you!

DD woke at 5.40am today and didn't go back to sleep, so I may be using some of your ideas from here if that continues!

To be honest we just resettled Maddie and then ignored her.
