Topic: Shettles method - did it work for you? Posted: 23 January 2008 at 3:55pm |
I know this is technically a TTC topic, but I want to hear from people who've already had their babies which is why I've put it in here. If that's too cheeky of me then feel free to move it
The Shettles method is a theory about how you can select the gender of your child through when you BD, the position you use etc. etc.
In a nutshell, it says that to get a girl you BD 2-4 days prior to ovulation, preferably in the missionary position, and to get a boy you BD no sooner than 12 hours before O in a 'deep penetration' position.
I'm curious to know who it might have worked for here, whether you were deliberately trying for a specific gender or not.
So - after a huge amount of pre-amble, here are my questions:
- Do you have a boy or a girl?
- On what day of your cycle did you BD, if you know?
- What position were you in? (don't answer this one if you don't want, it's fairly personal!!)

I did try it for number 3 and I wanted a boy and got one (day 14). I found it hard to keep track of the days etc though. I had to keep a diary beside my bed and I used fertility friend.
Position was on top. Same for my daughter too.

we didnt quite use this method but i knew i oved on day 8/9 so we did it every second day(day 6,8,9,10,11,13,15) and then every day 8/9/10/11 because I really wanted a boy (and it was the best way to catch the eggie:) and we got our boy:) position missionary as it was best for getting everything where it needed to go for me:)

- Do you have a boy or a girl? Twin girls
- On what day of your cycle did you BD, if you know? Day before ovulation (CD15)
- What position were you in? (don't answer this one if you don't want, it's fairly personal!!) Missionary TMI but it was a quickie in the spare room. I know exactly when it was as I o'd the next day but we didn't BD again coz my friend lost her wee babe to SIDS that day.
With this bub we BDed on O day and it was deep penetration so will be interesting to see if we have a boy or a girl!

With Jack it was sex at least once a day for a few weeks leading right up to o (he was a surprise so I don't know what day he was actually conceived but a lot of sex was had around that time ) and Its anyones guess what position.
Caprece was a once off I'm guessing a few days before o because I thought we were safe. Probably missionary.

We have a girl and we had sex each day for the 3 days prior to ovulation and the day of ovulation (from memory). We were using a 'deep penetration' position.
So I'd say we did everything that would result in a boy according to this method

As all my 3 were oopsie daiseys I have no idea on what day, what position etc SO unable to answer that. I however do just believe we are given what is meant to be ours. I have always known what my flavour was before finding out and I know my next one is going to be a girl (damn wanted it to be a boy).

50 50 chance it would be fun to try it out, but overall, I guess you've gotta be happy with what you get given!!!
Wouldn't have a clue what we did as Ashlee was an unplanned (but not unwanted!!) pregnancy.

- Do you have a boy or a girl? Girl
- On what day of your cycle did you BD, if you know? Bang on ovulation day
- What position were you in? (don't answer this one if you don't want, it's fairly personal!!) Good old missionary.
So in other words...didn't appeat it would have worked for us if we had been trying to use it...

Do you have a boy or a girl? girl
On what day of your cycle did you BD, if you know? days 7 10 and 13
- What position were you in? (don't answer this one if you don't want, it's fairly personal!!) plain old missionary
I ovulated on day 13 and according to the shettles method it seems we did everything to get a girl although we weren't exactly trying for a girl.

I cant help with our personal situation as we dont know what our little one is yet but I know from talking to people of 4 couples who were trying for either a boy or girl using Shettles Method and all 4 couples got what they were trying for. I havent heard of anyone that was using this method and got the oposite of what they were trying for if that makes sense!

I just dugg up this topic and thought i would add to it
Well im definately going to give this a go because i want a girl next
I also found a trader on trademe that sells PH strips so you can make sure the atmosphere is perfect for your preference
ETA - WHen we were trying to Astin we did it the day before and on the day of ovulation with "doggy" position (gez i feel really naughty for typing that! lol) and legs up in the air afterwards so therefore - Astin the boy

Boy, Day 14 (not sure what day I ovulate though as I wasn't testing for it), Missionary.
I'm definitely going to try this method next time, as I really want a girl --- so its worth a try! My doctor said she has helped over 200 couples now who wanted a particular gender (not with the first kid, she leaves that to chance) using this sort of method, and only 1 couple didn't get what they wanted .... so it sounds promising to me.
