Topic: 1st Bday - how much did u spend? Posted: 17 April 2008 at 8:19pm |
After the other posts about 1st bday stuff it got me thinking.
We just spent a lot on a tv so I'm thinking it's smart to figure out how much I need to set aside for Daniels 1st which is less than 2 months away.. !!
How much did you spend present wise on them for their 1st?
I'm buying a cake too, I am refusing to make one. I can't be bothered and I'm no good at it so I'd rather buy one and actually have people enjoy eating it than get food poisoning or hide it in a pot plant or something lol.

Less than $100, but Hannah's birthday is close-ish to Christmas. I got her a nice outfit from PP, some books and one toy I think. I wouldnt worry about getting too much.

We are getting one big present - a swing and slide set (metal not plastic) because he loves both at the park. So it's an excuse to get him that

I made Michaela a tartan pinafore as her 1st birthday present from us. The fabric, thread etc cost about $14. The that went into making it was priceless .
This year I wanted to be creative again and do something (or several things) for her bedroom but I ran out of time and motivation and spent $80 on her instead (she got a painted wooden table and chair set for $55 and an iggle piggle for $25).
I've made the cake both years as I refuse to spend $40+ on a cake.

We have already brought Ella a wooden table & chairs set (4 chairs) which costed $200 and am also going to buy her, her first doll. Didn't mean to spend quite so much on her present, but we figured that it would get a lot of use. I also wanted to get her a playhouse (found one I liked for $170), but have suggested that to the grandparents instead.
Am not planning on spending much on her birthday party and am going to make her cake.

We won't spend much on his party either, just the cost of making the food really.

We are doing the slide etc for Xmas this year as well. We have probably spent around $100 on Sam's presents. I can't wait to give them to her, it has been hard having them in the house and not! We are giving her a Peek & Play discovery dome, a talking Winnie the Pooh and some books. I will also get her something new to wear for her party (of course ).
Her party will probably cost around $150 including the bouncy castle and the cost of food/cake.
Oh, and I am giving the cake a go this year. I doubt it will live up to the vision I have, but this is the only year she won't care what it looks like!

Do you mean on presents or the party or both? We spend about 100 on presents and the same again on a party. The party stuff is mainly food really- we just had a BBQ (this is for Charlotte, but we'll do the same for Kate) and I made a cake

Both really.
I'll probably limit myself to about $50-70 after the swing and slide set. Most of it will probably be books because he looooves books and I'm getting bored with the ones we have lol

Ummmm...
Maya's party was about $500, but only coz we ended up spending $150 to hire a venue as it poured down and we had planned to have it at the park and had to make a last minute change of venue. I also did goodie bags etc, so went all out. Her present from us was $240, we bought her a greenstone taonga as we wanted to give her a keepsake.
The gremlins was much cheaper, we had it at home and the food cost surprisingly less than I thought it would considering we had 70-odd people here, and I didn't do any of the extras like goody bags. It was probably between $250-$300. I have no idea how much their greenstones cost as Willie bought them.

We spent around $150 on the presents and probably about the same on the party. That said, it was a really small party - just a family gathering really

Im going to go overboard i can see it. Im going to hire someone to take photos because i dont want to miss out on the fun doing it. I cant make cakes, but il buy one and im going to get a bouncy castle after i have a look at our back yard and see what we can fit in. Probaly a BBQ for the adults and party food for the kiddies.
I want to get her a swing and slide set for her birthday too..
