Hi Rosie, welcome to Oh Baby! I dont have twins, but there is one mum on here who does and one preggy with twins. I am Aimee, I have an almost 6 month old - Hannah. My sis had twins last year when her daughter was 10 months. Wow, you must have your hands full! This is a great site - you'll love it

Oh, cool. What are your twins doing now? Does Blair love them or love them to death? :) He's at kindy?
Cam's still most of a year from kindy but we go out 5 times a week to playgroups, playcenter, music, coffee groups, multi birth club etc (depending on the week). Today we had the whole day at home - the day seemed to take forever!
Cam's more love them to death at this stage - loves to carry them everywhere and give them cuddles - even if they don't want to. Sometimes it's very hard not to giggle.
Anyway, I'm chatting away and I should be doing something else!

Hi Rosie
Ryan and Katelyn are busy little babies they are both crawling around and pulling themselves up on furniture, Katelyn has 2 teeth but Ryan doesn't have any yet.
Yep Blairs in Kindy 3 days a week and he loves it which is great for me. I have never been to a multi-birth group i just never seem to have the time and with living in the country it makes it abit hard to get to town.
Blairs pretty good with them he's the same as Cam he loves carrying them everywhere and likes them to play in his bedroom with him, sometimes he can be abit rough but most of the time he's good.
Whats your girls names? What are they up to? I think the older they get the easier they are to look after, they seem to be able to just play by themselfs which makes life easier.

I don't have twins - yet! But we have twins due mid October, and Maya who was 3 in february. The sonographer said it looks like the babies are identical, but I guess time will tell on that one.

Looking forward to reading your ideas and tips for how in heck I am going to cope!

Oh Emma i SOOOO know how you are feeling i thought the same thing when i was pregnant with Ryan and Katelyn. I had no idea how i was going to cope with twins and a 3 yr old, but in saying that you just do you have no choice ( as my mum would say ). You'll be fine the only advice i have is except any help offered to you, if it wasn't for my mum, sister and wonderful husband i hate to think how things might have been, and get as much sleep as possible, i learnt that the hard way with our car crash.
Its a fun and interesting experience you'll love it.

Megan is trying to climb over the fireguard - already! And Charlotte is looking at us.
The girls are walking along furniture and having moments of standing alone. And following me around the house. If I'm trying to find something, each time I pass them (and don't pick them up), they'll cry a bit louder. So frustrating - esp if I still can't find whatever I'm looking for and both babies are crying and following me around. I feed them finger food for solids - so I don't have to spoon feed them (ever!) - cheeky huh?

You live in the country? I couln't handle that - we're 1km walk to the centre of town - a great distance for a walk.

Emma - people often said when I was pregnant "I'd love to help, but don't know how" - the answer is: they can: bring you baking, dinner, bread or milk, babysit your eldest (esp in last weeks of preg - if you get that far), do your lawns, garden - all very hands off stuff but it's so depressing being exhausted looking after the kids and looking out the window seeing the outside in a mess, and thinking what/how am I going to cook dinner tonight?
Did you go through a stage of not wanting twins? I did in those early weeks - then was excited.

Got to go and give my DH some attention.

I have talked to so many people who have said they have always wanted to have twins and i think man why would anybody want to have twins its so much hard work.
When i found out we were having twins i was not happy at all mu hubby and mum and sister (they were at the scan with me when i found out) were over the moon but it took me a while to get my head around the idea of being a mum to twins but it happened and they are the best.

As someone who has in the past expressed a desire for twins, I think it is because they really captivate people and are fascinating, especially identical twins. If most of us who have ever said "I'd love twins" are honest though we probably have quite a "romantic" idea of them and convienently forget the reality and all the work involved!

That said yes I'm still a little envious of you twin parents! My hat is off to you all!

I wanted twins first time round but had only one, then got pregnant with twins when Kobe was only 8 months old and to be honest wasnt very happy about it but then lost them and felt sooooo guilty for not wanting them. Ive only every wanted 2 kids which is why I would have been happy if kobe had of been a twin, which they actually think he was but the other one didnt develope. Hubby is a little disappointed this one isnt a twin but Im quite happy.
KOBE born 19 March 2004

It's not so much that I don't WANT twins, I just go thru stages of what I guess is grieving for what it means I miss out on - the cruisy second pregnancy, normal birth, getting to have my awesome midwife as LMC, losing my little VW and moving to a bigger house, and the fact that we budgeted and planned so that we could buy our next baby teh things we couldn't afford when we had Maya, but now we can't afford it twice over.

But then I am actually quite excited about twins, and really dreading that they might tell me something is wrong with one of them at my NT scan on Monday. And Maya is excited about her "two babies".

Rosie - I've been staying with Mum and Dad over Easter and Mum has a slow cooker which she uses all the time, so I went out and bought one today coz I reckon it'll be the only way I get dinner on the table once the babies arrive! And not having any family in Auckland, I am really working on my friends for support! But Willie has a sister at Helensville who has offered to have Maya while I am in hospital which is god, and Mum is going to come over when the babies are home as well. PLus I'm making Willie take his 3 weeks annual leave then too so he can pace the floors with me.

Did either of you breastfeed? Maya had severe dairy and soy allergy so I have been advised not to put my next child on formula at all. Which was fine when we thought there was one, but the thought of breastfeeding two exhausts me!

Hey XandersMum - C&M were born 2 June - I noticed when black friday came & went & held my breath - esp b/c they were twins and EVERYONE thought they were going to come early (right on time, dragged out by c/s)! Yes, very mischevious! And cheeky grins when I say No -

Emma - I hated that - moving house, bigger car - huge changes for the family - and being pregnant and exhausted the whole time! The scans are always horrible because you think too much and they forewarn you all the things that can go wrong with twins (tiny babies, early, blah blah blah). The best thing you can do is to chill - don't over/under eat/exercise/work. Rest at every possibility.

I b/f for 10 days (11 months with big fat Cam) - I wonder how much was to do with the c/s birth, and worrying over another little one (19 months) - I was too exhausted to find enough food to feed enough to the babies.

People give you lots of stuff when you have twins (are you a multi birth club member yet? Ours has discounts at shops and clothing swaps - wonderful!) I wouldn't worry heaps about that side of things - let your mummy friends know what you're worried about & I'm sure it'll turn up cheap in the next 6 months :) That's what friends are for.

Rosie - I've spoken to the lady at the local Multiple Birth club and she was awesome, they mailed me the rego form so I'll get it sent off next week. Am thinking about taking Maya along to their coffee group pre-babies so that she can get used to the people, and see other sets of twins and stuff. Plus they give you a discount card for stuff which will be useful. I nearly fell over when I saw the cost of the double prams! But am also thinking that I will be able to get a Honda Odyssey 7 seater (my Mum had one years ago and they are really practical) for around the same as I can get for my VW, so that is good.

And yep, I am being veeeeery nice to my friends atm - I know I m going to need them!

We just have a station wagon - 94 Nissan Aviner. It fits 3 carseats across the back seat with heaps of boot space. (some people movers don't have much of a boot). We just looked for a wagon with a flat back seat (vs dips for your bums) and hoped they all fit! (I really really didn't want a people mover).

Don't buy an older version Phil n Teds - the new ones (E3s) are great. Can buy from Trade Me or new from Winkalotts.co.nz (saves $90?)

BTW IRD pays out 2x$1200 for twins born for your parental tax credit - dunno how much this compares if you're working and get paid parental leave. Also your family assistance will go up heaps with 3 vs 1 child
http://www.ird.govt.nz/yoursituation-ind/parents/

I go to the twin club playgroup - they're an interesting bunch and I've met some good friends there.

Anyway should go
