Topic: Do any working mums-to-be feel like this? Posted: 04 May 2006 at 10:04am |
I'm finding that with 16 weeks to go, my motivation at work is totally exhausted. I have no interest. Zip. Zero. Nada. Nothing.
It's kind of frustrating because I have to work so we can buy the stuff we need to reduce debt yadda yadda yadda but honestly all I'm interested in is going home, putting my feet up, chilling and waiting for our little princess to arrive.
It seems to be worse now that we know the gender and can think of our bubs by the name we plan to give her.
Is it just me or do other working mums-to-be feel the same way (or did other mums feel the same?)

Yup I DEFINATELY feel the same!!! I just don't care anymore But like you said, bills still have to be paid etc and I plan to come back to work when bubs is around 10 months or so, so I really can't get on the bad side of my boss!!

Yes I feel the same way too, and I find it hard to care about the work related problems that people are having and want me to resolve. I know it's my job but I'm not about to stress myself over something stupid.

Yes i know that feeling!! I would love to be at home and get to sleep in etc.
I have 12 weeks left of work and am seriously counting the days.
I think that for me being at work is better than being at home because at least i am doing something whereas if i was at home i would be a potato
If only we could get paid for doing nothing or just for being pregnant

I'm finishing up one month before and the last 3 weeks I'm using annual leave to make them all 4 day weeks.
It still seems like ages though! Hopefully it will fly by though...

I am soooo the same - just hating work now, lost all interest in things that I used to think were inportant - even worse I have now started doubting I even want to come back to my job, whic I have worked really hard to get over the past 5 years - I have to work cos we have responsibilities to meet (mortage, cars, etc etc blah blah) but I am thinking I want to change to something that is more slow pace and more work at home - looking into it now but it will mean a financial sacrifice ofcourse - not only has my love of my job changed, my priorities have been completely tipped upside down...
I have 16 weeks of work left and i CANT WAIT to get out of this place and get ready for baby!

i havent worked for sooooooooooo LONG! but im sure i'd be feeling the same. i left work real early in my first pregnancy because of health reasons and other things.... in some ways it would of been nice to of had a bit more money to buy "special" things, but we were fine on our one income (it was pretty pathetic income too!) and i am grateful for the time i had off relaxing and enjoying myself before jade arrived. and i didnt stop work all together, i worked part time whenever i felt like it. it was GREAT! again though i had health reasons to leave and i needed to rest for mine and jades own good.

Mrs Frantic....I'm the same...I'm doubting I want to come back to work and quite frankly considering the cost of child care we're doubting if it is worth it...
At this stage I would only have to come back if we want to buy a house...but as bad as this may sound...it's not a priorty for us...I'd rather sacrifice buying a house now and wait until say the kids are at school, than go back to work after 14 weeks!

Yep, I've got health probs preventing me from working more than one half-day a week this year, and I really loved that little job, but now, I'm so OVER it!! There's a chance the job might end a school term before I'd planned to leave it, and the only thing I'd miss is the wee pay-packet. I just want those extra few pinga's for baby things, and that's the only reason I agreed to stay on another term from what I'd originally said. And I wouldn't return to the same work when I do eventually return to work (part-time, many years from now, realistically). I've practiced social work for years now, and now that I'm pregnant, I'm just not willing to put myself in some of the dodgy situations I've been in before. I'll be looking at other work!

I can tell you that IT WAS HARD to come back to work after 15 weeks and I cried the day before.....but once I started it was not too bad. Mind you I went home three times on my break to feed her for the first 13 weeks and now I only go at my lunch time.
I guess it is easier for me as my Aunt comes to my place to look after Zaara....but I can totally understand what you guys are feeling. I just could not afford to stay home...with a mortage and other bills to pay......oh well!!!!

I was saying the exact same thing to my hubby this morning! I'm soooooooo tired this week (getting over a nasty cold) and I'm finding it really hard to do anything at work. I LOVE my job, always have and worked really hard to get here, but right now I couldn't give a rats if any of the projects I'm supposed to have completed by the end of June are done or not .
My maternity leave start date is very flexible but unfortunately our morgage isn't or else I would be at home right now waiting for our lil' kicker to arrive

I agree with you PAWS, the cost of childcare is huge! The centre closest to my work would cost $250 per week for the baby when I go back to work - $1000 per month is a lot of money to take off your paycheck - unfortunately it is still better for me to go to work and pay the childcare financially than not to, and even more unfortunately I earn the most in our house, and MOST unfortunately we have a large mortgage already and I HAVE to work, but maybe I can change my job to be more flexible and more at home - hoepfully I can...
AT the moment wihtout any alternatives I will have to go back to work after 12 weeks of leave (meaning baby could be as young as 8 weeks -*UGH* it breaks my heart!) but I am scheming constantly to find somethign else!!!

yes yes and yes!!
I have just reduced my hours as well but still cant be bothered. Just want to be at home and with other Mums who are at home having a cup of tea!!
I dont want to ever go back to work but with the House and stuff may have too. I am trying to work it out at the moment. I am hoping to only do 15 hours or so after having 3-6 months off. Possibly even looking at being a Care giver and making some money that was. Then I can stay at home!!!
MONEY MONEY MONEY!

Yep, and I love my job, and I work from home. So I really have no excuse to be so unmotivated and lazy.
Maya's daycare centre was $180 a week full time Mrs Frantic, so if you shop around you might find somewhere cheaper.
