Topic: when to introduce the pillow? Posted: 10 April 2007 at 7:00pm |
i know when they're babies they're not supposed to have a pillow and mikey is usually perfectly happy sleeping without one but now he's got a cold and i'd love to be able to give him a pillow to raise his head up a bit.
so when is it safe?

Andrew had one when he moved to his big bed at 18 or so months. I do know that he had one earlier than that at daycare I was happy for him to have it there as they were supervised while sleeping.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

My girls got one at around 1yr of age, by that stage my girls had been crawling in the cot before sleeping and falling asleep on the duvet! So I figured it was just as safe lol. I went for a flattish pillow, not too bulky or airy.

I've been wondering about this too Ella. HAnnah seem sto like sleeping with her head on her teddy or on the duvet, so am thinking about putting a flattish one in, but under her fitted sheet so she can't get under it.

Is Mikey in a cot? We used to prop the head of the cot up by placing some books under the front two legs.

My kids were all around the age of one when they got their first pillow. I just went for the really flat ones.

I put a pillow in Ella's cot at about 18 months, but I put it under the fitted sheet so she couldn't burrow underneath it. When she got her big bed at age 2 she got a 'proper' pillow.

I think it depends from kid to kid. After a year it should be okay. (I think.) McKayla sleeps on the bed with us and during the early night she crawls up and sleeps on a pillow until I get into bed then she snuggles down.

lol shirena, that's cute.
mikey has been in a single bed since he was about 11 months as he hated the bars on the cot and just would not sleep but then he went to sleep really well in the bed, strange baby.
i think i'll probably try putting a flattish pillow under the sheet and see how that works.

When Zaara had a cold I did sleep her on a flattish pillow. And recently we bought her a baby pillow from Baby factory. But do you think she would sleep on it???....the little monkey ends up with her back on it???

LOL, Ella keeps asking questions that I have been wondering about latey too. Joey has been going to sleep using his teddy as a pillow for the past few weeks so I have been wondering if it might be time for a pillow too...

haleigh got a pillow at 8months when she got an ear infection, it was the only way we could get her to sleep in her cot without screaming down the house all night.
she has a flattish pillow and wont sleep without a pillow now. she does love my feather pillow and gets grumpy i wont let ehr use it.

Jack has slept with one in our bed once or twice fine but he still moves round his cot too much now so I know he wouldn't sleep on it.
