How can i tell without my MW of course whether bubs has dropped down???

The other day i got up after some weird movements and i felt a bit of a click and then pressure down there!! there is also now a mushy area under my BBs that wasnt there the other day (he is/was sitting VERY high!) and its sore to walk (and its not the same as my pelvic pain i always get either) just feels like something is kind of grinding and heavy down there????? His movements have also been alot lower...

When do you normally drop??? I didnt drop at all with Bay so not to sure all i know is that it is NOT a sign of labour and can happen at any time im just curious as to when others have dropped...

I thought it could happen sometime in the 30s weeks but I'm a novice so dont quote me. I remember reading that first time bubs can drop/engage/lighten a few weeks before due but it often doesnt happen with subsequent bubs due to lack of tummy muscles so maybe you have great abs!!!

he he he. I just read your post in my question about how you carry your bump. You WERE saying that this is a boy and you are carrying high which is meant to indicate a girl.....and what has the boy done now??????

Amber, I think with first bubs you 'drop' about 4 weeks before labour but with subsequent bubs it usually happens right before you go into labour. I have been thinking sometimes bubs is dropping low as my bump often looks different somehow, lower, or whatever. But in the last couple of days she has been riding REALLY high and jabbing me in the ribs and my lungs feel squished cos I get so short of breath ! But when she goes low, its like this intense pressure down there and it makes me want to rush off for a wee!!!

They can drop down temporary and then bounce back up, my bubba loves dropping down for a little while then coming back up and going back to torturing my ribs

hehe nzpiper! all my "signs" point to him being a girl! but nop definately a BOY!!!

Oh well il expect him to pop back up then seen as im pretty sure that im not going to go into labour within the next few weeks

I dont mind if he pops back up though as i dont seem to have any probs with him being high like no probs with breathing (i did right at the start but not now), no rib jabs etc but this sitting low thing is very uncomfortable!!!!

My bubs sits low all the time. I think he/she is lazy and just chills out on my bladder. I had no relief in the bladder stakes the whole way through my pregnancy. I must admit it does every now and again get off my bladder so maybe it is learning to be considerate.

When i was preggas with Bay i had contant wee probs!!! Bay was very comfortable sitting the whole 9 or 10ish months on my bladder!!! after 20ish weeks i was getting up every half hour even in the night to go luu!! which was worse living in a 2 story and having the toilet downstairs and bedroom upstairs!! BUT this time with Astin sitting so high (just pressuming this is why i dont have the same prob??) i have not needed to go regularly at all!! i go maybe 2-3 times a day then once at 3am and sometimes not at all over night!

Bub dropped at 30.5 weeks and it felt similar to what you've described except I had heaps of bladder pressure (needed to go constantly!) and the grinding feeling didn't happen til recently (when his head got bigger and he got heavier). I went into labour at 32 weeks though, so I'm not "normal" .... but it does feel the way you've described, if that helps.

Amber, my bub drops & pops back up again all the time too, & I hear ya on the 'needing to go wees' bit!!!!!
I think with DD I dropped at about 36w.

With DD I carried VERY low the whole time & this time (preg with a Boy) I've carried VERY high. I've got stretchmarks from this preg alot higher than the ones I got with DD

I can't believe your 32wks already!!!!

My first baby dropped at 34-36 weeks, my subsequent babies dropped a bit after that (Briona was breech at 36 weeks, didn't get in the right place until 38 weeks, and dropped after that). I felt that the pressure on my stomach had instantly relieved, but I could easily see the difference in the mirror too.

If you're the type who likes to prod around in the way the mw does, you can feel for whether baby has engaged (which is a definite drop). You'll feel the back, most likely down one of your sides, and the bottom's pretty easy to feel at your stage. The head feels like a tennis ball and that should hopefully be 'down there'. Then there will be a couple of centimetres before your pubic bone. That's the 1/5, 2/5, 3/5, 4/5 measurement that your mw will use from about now on.

What I have heard is that subsequent pg's don't tend to drop quite as far as #1, ie you might get to 3/5 but then nothing more until labour. Also dropping is not necessarily an indication of labour.

Josh was quite early with dropping and once he dropped I could feel it. Very heavy feeling down there and breathing was a lot easier. They can go in and out but I had one subborn boy and once he was down there he stayed from about 30 odd weeks.
I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

Brenna dropped once I went into labour. I remember that it was a huge difference to how my tummy looked. I know someone whos baby dropped at about 30 weeks and the baby was born on time. I think anything can happen (sorry, not very helpful)
My beautiful 2 girls...nearly 4 and 13 months

hehe Jess i noticed the different stretch mark thing too!! i had a few down low (mostly under my belly button with Bay and now they are up the top!!
I cant believe im 32 weeks either! i was looking through my TTC diary that i kept while trying to concieve and the last time i wrote in there was when i was 1 week pregnant! lol (so i guess 3 weeks in preggy terms) so its weird to think "wow 32 weeks already!!".

At my last MW appointment my MW couldnt feel his head properly because it was right down into my pelvis and she said she could feel harder but i would get too uncomfortable but she never mentioned anything about being engaged?? (well not that i cant remember???). He generally always sits in the same position all the time which is with his back on my right side, bum out, feet off to my left and head down. His movements (usually his bum as i can feel the whole outline! lol and MW has confirmed it) is usually just below my ribs but now the movements feel just above my hip???

I know it doesnt mean anything but its really great to find out more about how it all works so thanks heaps ladies

I wonder if, now that the fluid is reducing and he's a bit bigger, you can feel his hands moving near your hip?

The other thing is that he may have flipped?

Hey busymum is 1/5 the lowest or 5/5 the lowest? Just wondering cos I was 3/5 2 weeks ago, 2/5 last week and 3/5 again this week so is baby lower this week or last week? Also does this mean shes engaged or is it 1/5 or 5/5 that means shes engaged?
