I know there's a long list of what not to eat / drink during pregnancy and breast feeding.

So what do you eat?

Particularly for lunches, as this seems to be the meal I struggle with, especially in winter when a pie looks so yum, but I really don't need.

Salads, sammies and a tortilla thing I got from babe.. layers of tortillas with vege and meat (but not for me lol) and cheese and then bake, yum yum yum, soups

Mmm... pies. I never ate them, but once I decided I shouldn't (the only ones I could get had been sitting in the warmer for ages) I've wanted them

I made big batches of vege soup that I froze and took to work in serving-size portions. Tuna sammies, tomato sammies, peanut butter sammies (I'd take the ingredients to work, I like my sandwiches freshly made, even peanut butter). I'd keep a few of those heat-and-eat meals from the supermarket handy, for days when I was running late.

I like fresh sammies too, I'll try some of the suggestions.
That tortilla thing sounds yum, I'd happily do a vego version. I prefer my mexican without meat.

I ate lots of soups, pastas and stuff for lunch. If you go down the instant food aisle, steal heaps of their ideas! Butter chicken soup, stuff like that!

I also used some of the canned/pre-packed stuff when I was feeling lazy, was really yummy and nothing ever suggested it wouldn't be safe!

Soups, but had to cut the white bread with breast feeding as dd gets eczema... And no cheese as she gets the runs

I eat a lot of fruit, too much citrus is a nono eith breastfeeding apparently.

I eat a lot of steamed veges for lunch.

Sandwiches or toasted sammies are good too.

Pastas are good too.

The tortilla thing is super yum. I pile it with salsa, grated carrot, capsicum and whatever I can find and gobble it up! So easy and cheap

Mmmmm tortilla wraps with fresh salads, chilli beans, cheese and sour cream are a treat for me...yum

But for everyday lunch I normally do vego sandwiches or pasta or similar....whatever I eat, Clodagh eats. Occasionally I'll get a vegetarian pie from the organics store and keep it in the freezer for those preggy moments lol

Hmm when I was working...

Tomato and Cheese toasties
Baked Beans on toast
Yoghurt and fruit
Egg Sammies
Vegemite Sammies
Soup and Toast
Frozen meals
Tuna pasta bake

As for breastfeeding, technically speaking you can eat whatever you like its not like being pg however, you may find some foods dont agree with your bubs.. What I was told by an LC was if you notice bubs seems upset by a food then dont eat it and try it again in a week.. if you get the same reaction then best to avoid that food...

I couldnt eat eggs until Jake was about 4 or 5 months old and dairy has been an ongoing battle...

I usually eat a bread roll with marmite or peanut butter when Im at work, so boring but I don't want to risk lunch meat or salad sitting around all day. Sometimes I have a cup of soup with my roll which is nice. I also buy from time to time ready made soups and pasta meals to heat up in the microwave at work which can be really nice. Also some of the microwave ready meals are good too they have veges, rice etc.

You could also have baked beans or spaghetti on toast, tuna/ chicken in a can on crackers, toasted sandwich- I like to have cheese and onion or similar.

I have had the very occasional microwave pie hehe when I had morning sickness all I wanted was pies!

Generally speaking aside from lunches since I have been pregnant Ive eaten more pasta dishes as I find them nice and safe and filling. Pasta bake with some tuna or mince in it, with salad on the side can be sooo good and cheap. I didn't eat much pasta before!

Also we usually have meat like steak or chicken, or fish (from a box I don't like to risk fresh), salad (which I wash and make myself) and a carb like potatoes, wedges or a pasta snack type thing. I also make bologneise, chilli con carne, stir fries, home made pizza with lots of veges, etc. If my meal is a bit carb heavy eg pasta or pizza I make sure to put lots of veges in it, or have lots of salad. I also make a curry with rice sometimes, there are some easy mixes or sauces to get if you don't want to take too much time.

Another nice Saturday night dinner is burritos, just get tortillas, salad and fry up some mince and beans or chicken, roll it all up with a bit of cheese and sour cream and it's yummmmm.

I have gone off things like steamed broccoli and caultiflower with meals while Ive been pregnant which is why I do the salads but if you can stomach them they are good too.

So funny what you go off when pregnant eh. Then combined with what you're not allowed ... sometimes I feel like I might as well just stick to Maccas

Seriously though, I usually have a hot lunch because I'm at home but it's generally something reheated from the night before - pasta bake, lasagne, spag bol, shepherds pie, fish pie, macaroni cheese, stirfry with rice, chicken noodle soup (homemade).

We eat a lot of fish (fresh salmon or snapper) for tea or chicken dishes because I've gone off preparing red meat a bit and every time I start thinking of what to make for tea I end up back at fish. Tonight is sweet and sour fish, steamed veges and rice.

The other thing I've gone off is fresh fruit in the mornings, we used to have it with yoghurt ALL the time but not since MS!!!

Ever since becoming pregnant I cannot face an avocado - used to eat them all the time but now the thought of having one makes me feel sick!

My lunchtime diet was extremely limited due to fear of the staff canteen and how long stuff had been left out for. I tended to take soup and bread, or home-made cheese sandwiches. I am avoiding nuts because of asthma in the family so no peanut butter sandwiches for me. My diet has become extremely limited since becoming pregnant - my husband has taken over cooking evening meals so pretty much meat, meat, meat which I think is probably a good thing from an iron point of view.

There should be more guidance on what we CAN actually eat instead of all the lists of stuff we can't.

Bizarre - I steamed a whole head of broccolli the other day and had it for afternoon tea!!!!

First time around I used to have a lot of stuffed baked spuds....and toasties!

I'd like this too.. Especially when I'm out shopping etc and every food court outlet is off the menu apart from McD's and I don't need anymore fast food.

I have thought about ordering one of the chinese soups/meals that are made to order, has anyone tried those, are they really fresh or are the ingredients left sitting around?

Depends with each place imo, I have friends who own one and everything is fresh but then I know other places it isn't as fresh or stuff isn't stored correctly etc.
