Hey all, Hope all are well!
well what a week, or 2 or 11 1/2 lol
Had a pretty bad day on Tuesday, Aidan had his surgery booked for 8.30am so was told to be there by 8am, I couldnt sleep so ended up catching the 6.25am bus to town, to get to the bus station fulled with ambulance people, and police. yep a man had had a heart attack and died in the middle of our bus station!
I got to the hospital at 6.45am to find out they had bathed and weighed him during the night (I had asked on Monday if I could do it first thing Tuesday morning before his surgery... they said no because of the drip in his arm, they didn't want to get it wet!) anyway I ended up going nuts as he had now reached 3kg! and they didn't even bother to take a pic or anything!

we get packed up and get Aidan into the travel incubator and go to the 'other side of the hospital' and I'm shuffled into this tiny room and told they will ring for me when Aidan is out of surgery... (40 min surgery I'm told) 1 1/2 hours later and I hadn't heard anything, I go to the bathroom to discover the surgeon had been in to get me My nurse then comes and gets me and tells me I cant go back the same way as we came and that I have to go the 'long way'
I eventually get to our room and there he is, screaming his head off all the pain relief he is allowed is panadol! 4pm and I'm finally allowed to hold him!
fast forward to yesterday morning, I arrive at the hospital at 10.50am, Aidan was not only screaming, but covered in vomit!!! the nurse said that hes only just woken up and that she hasn't given him any panadol since 5am! (omfg no wonder he is screaming!) I just turned around and walked out! 12.15pm she comes and finds me telling me shes been waiting for me to feed him! she went back out ... I was all of 5 minutes and she was already feeding him, she gave him to me and of course he didn't want any more GRRRRRR at this stage she knew I wasn't very happy and asked what was wrong, well I lost it! I told her I'm sick of the nursed jumping in and doing every thing, I'm sick of not being informed of anything, I haven't spoken to a doctor for over 3 weeks now so have no idea what the hell is going on, when they expect us to come home or nothing!
I finally got to speak to the head pediatrician who said is Aidan is still on oxygen by next week he will more then likely come home on it! as for when we will go home... 2 weeks at the very earliest, but don't know!
I ask them if I can still bath and weigh him tomorrow (well today now) and they said yes

Today, I get in, can I bath and weigh him? No, he cant be bathed now for another 4 days GRRR (I tell you what... what little patience I had is now even smaller!) I give him a top and tail and weigh him.... he is now...

3.180 or 7lbs!!!

the same size as Bailey was when he was born(well Aidan is now 10g heavier)

anyway, if any of you are still reading, you can probably tell Ive had enough, I'm over it all completely now! he is now 83 days old and it looks like he will make 100 days before we get to go home!

BIG hugs Trish!

I can feel your frustration, and I hope someone at the hospital pulls finger and puts you and Jamie back in the loop immediately!

Oh, and what a good weight he is now! Good growing, Aidan!

Oh HUGS Trish....and yes i am sure we all read this....I dont want to miss anything

Have you got a social worker at the hospital to assist and set up a meeting? if not talk to the admin staff and she what you can do - make sure you let them know that you seem to be in the dark at the moment and you demand to know what is going on....I soooo feel your frustration - dont just sit back - hes your son and you deserve to know what is going on....make sure you at least speak to a doctor today and that you get some agreement from the ward as to when he is to be fed by you, bathed etc....speak to the clincial manager etc if no luck with the nurses....pull rank chick!!! Youre the mum!!!

HUGS!!!!

7lbs!!!! That's fantastic Trish!

As for the Nurses etc - Has the hospital offered you an advocate? (They should have done so straight away), talk to them and get them to sort out the nurses, you have enough to do looking after Aiden, you don't need the extra stress of making sure they're doing their job!

Thanks for the update, we're thinking of you and your family

Sounds like you are having a rough time Trish but well done for standing up for yourself. After all he is YOUR baby and you have every right to do as much as you can for him. Yeah the hospital staff have to do the medical part of it but all the everyday stuff like bathing and feeding should definately be up to you if you are there or have arranged to do it when you come in. Maybe once you are home you could do a sort of feedback outlining all the concerns and problems (also good things) that you had while Aidan was there. I'm pretty sure they would probably appreciate it and would hopefully try to rectify it? Heres hoping you have your man home in a couple of weeks

well like Ive been saying to the nurses his surgery scars are infected, and well today they were so infected his whole lower abdomen was red! So finally on antibiotics! for 1 week!

Also I had a chat to the registrar on today and they are saying he wont be out before 42 weeks!

I was talking to my nurse yesterday and asking when I can 'room in' she said because he is bottle fed then anyone can feed him and also because I have Bailey I wont be able to say in any longer then 1-2 days!
I mentioned this to the registrar this morning and said I shouldn't be made to feel guilty for changing to bottle feed my son, and I don't think its fair that the nurses are getting to feed him, hes so warn out from then feeding him all night that hes sleeping all day, so I don't get to!
she said me rooming in wont happen until hes at least having 5-6 bottles per day, shes going to get the nurses to stop forcing the bottle with him when I'm not there! and she just looked at me when I said I shouldn't be made to feel guilty about bottle feeding!
all in all I wasn't 'satisfied' with it at all today

ohh and hes not liking the formula, the stupid bloody nurse yesterday decided it was her call to change his feed to 1/2ebm and 1/2 formula every feed (I had discussed with the previous nurse that this wasn't to happen as hes not tolerating the formula at all right now!) anyway, because of this he is vomiting every feed, and has only gained 20g in 2 days (minimum is 30g per day) so now he is on 3/4 ebm and 1/4 formula, until he gets use to it!
