Hi Ladies

What do you reckon is the most painful part of labour/birth (aside from contractions)?

Definately the contractions were by far the worst part for me. I can remember the pain of the contractions but can't remember the pain of much else IYGWIM. I think by the time it was time to push I just wanted that baby out soooo bad that I didn't care about how much it hurt.

Aside from contractions? Crowning!
That was verrrry stingy and was when I started yelling something along the lines of "OH MY GOD GET HIM OUT OF ME NOOOOOOOW!" Luckily that bit was over very quickly

I second that. Don't be scared tho. Once you get to that stage, you just want bubs out and will do ANYTHING to make it happen.....!!! (Even tearing from front to back..... Ouchie ouchie!!!)

I know you said apart from contraction, but I found that the worst part for 2 reasons:
1. I didn't know how long it was going to go on for
2. They were so intense (I had a VERY quick labout so didn't have any breaks in my contractions.)

The crowning did sting, but I was so glad that I was now pushing that I didn't care (and I've got a very low pain threshold)

The contractions were the worst for me too. Like Anna said it's the unknowing of how long, how more pain full they will be I also had a reasonably fast labor. The crowing was bad but by then the adrenalin had well and truly kicked in when I started pushing I just wanted to meet my little baby and find out if it was a boy or girl.

Hmmmm..... it's been more than 5 years since I last gave birth so I've 'forgotten' what hurts most, so this is interesting to read!! I'm preparing to do it all over again in about 9 weeks

I would say crowning was probably the most painful part but like others have said once you get to that stage you really want it outta there & it's over pretty quickly!

The crowning did sting a little for me, but I didnt care so much by then as we were actually getting somewhere and I had a bit of control. I know you dont want to hear contractions were the worst but I found I could handle most of them until I got to the transition ones which came on very suddenly for me and the fact that you felt like you wanted to push but had to wait made them horrible.

I find the contractions hard, taxing emotionally with the end seeming like so far away, but the crowning has been the worst part for me by far - and I only felt that part once! Apparently I have a long perineum and that makes my crowning time rather long - not one of these "over in two pushes" ladies! For a minute I was afraid I would tear forwards but my mw reassured me and I was ok (tore elsewhere but I didn't feel that).

You asked what was worse aside from contractions... but labour/birth is: contractions, pushing, crowning, stitches if necessary. Anyway, why are you asking this? I don't want my reply to freak you out!!!

I just wanted to say on a positive note, having never been through birth or labour myself (yet), most of you lovely ladies go back for a second, third and even fourth time so I figure as bad as labour might be, you all go back time and time again so it MUST be worth it in the end, right !!

Of course it is you get a darling bubba to take home !!

Peachy is right though. It might be one day of pain (in varying degrees of course) but it really is all worth it in the end. And hey, I've pushed out twice and am planning on another time yet lol

I have to add, tearing sounds a lot worse than it is. With Jake I tore and had three stitches, with Taine I grazed slightly. Didn't notice the tear at all with Jake, either during or after, but boy! that graze stung when I peed afterwards!

I had forcepts so didn't have to go through the crowing bit so I just have to say contractions because they were just insaine...but at least once you get to the point of pushing you can do something and focus on your pushing instead of just waiting until a contraction is over....OMG, why am I putting myself through that again

The contractions were the worse for me, but I never got to birth HAleigh as hard as I tried she ended up forceps.
So I had the lovely epidural disguising any pain after that.

I am gonna jump on in here to say that the BIRTH is only *however many* hours long, if you are lucky (like me?!) the whole thing will last several hours, or a couple of days? In the big scheme of things, the birth is not what you should be worried about!

With Maya the contractions were awful, mostly coz I had 36 hours of latent labour (contractions every 5-7 minutes ) before they kick started it with synto, I felt very out of control, the contractions were unbearable and I remember the crowning was the absolute worst part.

With the gremlins, I can honestly say I don't think it hurt at all. I mean, yes, the contractions were painfl, but never to the point I felt I couldn't cope, and when the midwife said Sienna was crowning I remember having a sudden flashback to how much crowning Maya hurt, but Sienna was nowhere near as bad, and I don't even really remember birthing Mercedes, it was all over so fast.
