In my scan this week I was told my placenta was sitting low - close to the cervix - & would need to go back at 32 weeks to have another scan to see if its moved up. If it hasn't a c-section would be needed.

Has anyone else had this & the placenta has moved up?

After having 2 natural births a c-section would suck but I'd deal with it, having no other option. At least I'd know the birthdate!!

Hey Italiah. I know a couple of mum son the june board have had this - one has already had the 32 weeks scan and the placenta has mved. i am sure they will share their stories once they spot this post. Another friend had placenta previa (sp?) and it was later htan the 32 weeks before it was decided things had moved enough to be safe for a natural delivery (she had a great natural delivery too!) So far I haven't heard of anyone's not moving (though i know it happens) so I wouldn't worry about it yet (if you can take your mind off it of course!)

I'm one of the june ladies who has had this problem. At my 20wk scan my placenta was about 1.5cm from my cervix. I was told to go back and have a scan at 30wks which I did a couple of weeks back and mine has moved out of the way by quite a bit. His head is lower than the placenta which is great.

9/10 placentas move as the uterus expands so don't stress about it!!

i get my scan to check if mines moved on fri next week.
My mw told me that in most cases it moves up, mine needs to move 2cm so we'll find out on friday.
I think with Placenta PRevia you usually get a little o alot of bleeding (my friend did). but your midwife will explain all to you,
Im sure it will move for you and you'll be able to have bubs naturally

Great to hear a few positive stories. I haven't heard of this much - hasn't happened to anyone I know - so wasn' sure if it was likely to move, although the radiographer lady said it was possible that it would. I'm looking forward to having another scan at 32 weeks anyway! Haven't had one that late before.

i had one at 34wks with haleigh but it was becuase my mw couldnt work out where her head was lol, she was down so low lol.
im having my scan at 31wks this time round, although they prefer to check it at 32 - 34 wks i got away with it hehe.
i had never heard of it at all before until they noticed it on me, so i initially stressed out about it, but not worried now.
i didnt realsie how common it really was until a few people i know had the same thing.

I had a low lying placenta too & it moved by the 32 week scan, so had a natural birth. I was quite worried but it must be pretty common because my midwife wasn't at all concerned. Apparently something like 90% do move out of the way.

Hey Italiah, I had a low-lying placenta at 20 weeks too, and also had to go back for another scan at 32 weeks, by which time it had moved up. It's quite common for the placenta to be low-lying at the halfway point, but as Baby grows bigger and bigger in the third trimester especially, it usually corrects itself. Hang in there! :)

Well I saw my MW yesterday & she said not only is it lying low, but also sitting in the front, (as to why I haven't felt movement up to now). So if the placenta doesn't move up at all for a natural birth, even a c-section is risky as they'd have to cut through the placenta!! So they'd have to be quick with cutting then getting the baby out. Eek! Freaky stuff. So here's HOPING this placenta MOVES!!

hey italiah, i've just seen this thread.. I have a low lying placenta too.. mine is sitting partly over my cervix - I have been really worried about what it means or if this meant complications for the birth - glad to read what I have just now from everyone's posts..

I had a scan at 2Owks which was when I initially found out too then another at 25wks which showed it was still quite low.  I am booked for another scan at 31wks to see if there's any change..  I was also told that if the placenta doesn't move I would be having a C-section..  It's quite a shock when all along you are mentally preparing for a natural birth..

let us know how things look hun, fingers crossed that things will be just fine for us both

I'm starting to feel a lot more movement "down there" so am hoping it means the placenta has already moved its way up. I had a bleed at 15 weeks which came from behind the placenta, it was only a very small bleed but enough to freak me out & would hate to have any more bleeding until of course its actually time to give birth!

Yes Justme - fingers crossed for us both to have natural deliveries! Only 8 weeks til I have my other scan to see if the placenta has moved.

So glad I found this. I was told today that I have a low lying placenta and was worried. So thanks for all the positive results. I'll just live till the 32 week scan assuming it's normal and will move
