Topic: Do you tell? Posted: 06 July 2007 at 8:16am |
I'm curious to know if you tell your friends and rellies about OB? Or are you too embarrassed? For me, when I relay info from people on here I say "a friend of a friend said..." (or a friend if it's someone I feel I know kinda well). And there's NO WAY I'd point my rellies (sis etc) in this direction because it's my "safe venting/talking spot" LOL
What about you?

My friends know that I talk to people online but they don't know the name of it as this is a place were I feel comfortable talking about stuff that I don't want other people to know about.

Im the same as you teresa, I dont really tell anyone. Not because Im embarassed but because i dont want them coming online and seeing what I write, its a place I can vent and gossip. Its almost like an online diary, I know you guys are reading but dont want others to if that makes any sense at all.

Yep I tell people, they know that I used to be on NZWP and that I met heaps of girls from that site, and they know that some of those girls are now on this site. I'm not sure if they've ever come on to find me though... it wouldn't worry me if they did.

Ditto, Danni!!!
And ditto, Ana and BS - DH and I met online and my mum felt she had to lie to her family about how we met as she was afraid how some of them may take it. I told her that I didn't want to have to keep up that lie/fib and told them the truth. They were fine with it! I admit, I'm still a little bit embarassed to admit it to people I don't know well, but most people take it fine! We're happily married with a baby, so things worked out well didn't they?!

I tell some people but like you a few of you I don't tell them the name of the site as this is my home and I don't really want them to see what I have to say.
I still remember that Holmes episode BS the txt's that got sent in were nasty.

Another ditto here as to how I met my DH!! Initially I was embarrased about it because it wasn't really the norm back then, and so I told a couple of porkys about how we met to a few people But now, I just spit it out and people either say "oh me too" or they don't bat an eyelid cause it's pretty common now. Plus, I'm a geek and people often expect me to only be sitting in front of a computer all day anyway..
As for this sort of site, I don't tend to give specific site names just because of the whole not wanting everyone I know to read some of the stuff I type.

Don't be offended, but mostly you guys are my "geeky online friends" (but meant in the most loving way possible!) it's mostly just to take the piss out of myself
But yeah, I'm often commenting about how I have more friends online than I do in real life. Sad but true. (Except when you take into account who the geeky friends are - you all aren't so bad )

See DH and I met the conventional way but I don't really see the difference between normal dating and internet dating.
When DH and I went on our first date we didn't know a lot about each other having only known the other at work. Whereas on the internet so I have been told it's generally a lot of talking before the dating. Therefore providing the person has been honest you actually have an advantage. I personally think internet dating is romantic good on those that have done it.
Back on topic I have told a few people about OhBaby but usually just say "a mate".

I tell some people that I know won't be interested enough to come and read, but generally I just say an online friend.
My DH works in IT and is an online gamer, so no one is very surprised when I talk about online friends too
