Topic: Water... Posted: 13 July 2007 at 5:43pm |
what age did you start giving water 9or anything else) as another drink to your child? rhyley has 4 bottles per day and 3 solids, hes not interested in drinking any water when offered and just ends up chewing on the spout (i offer in sipper cup) so just wonder when you child started 'wanting' extra fluids?

I have started for Kryssi but not everyday, and just because she eats so much that she has been getting constipated!
Hannah was abou 10mos (starting to wean) and Bria was about 8mos, but that was summer.

I was at plunket the other day and they said to start from 4 months or so. Offer a sippy cup and they may not drink any, but it gets them used to it

Lucky for me, Alyssa has always loved water and was drinking it from around 5-6 months, but never liked the sippy cup. Initially I just used a bottle for water and sometimes even a normal cup (I just helped her pour it in her mouth).. Now that she can drink from a straw she loves it even more!

We introduced Isla to water ages ago but she wouldnt take any. We got a different sipper cup, and she just chewed on it each time we gave it to her for a few weeks.
In the last week she has started drinking a whole cup worth (150mls) over the course of the day. She has 3 meals solids and 4 bf/formula feeds a day.

If I remember correctly, I think I gave James a sipper cup with water when he had his solids to get him use to the cup more than anything, dont think he actually drunk much of the water.

The gremlins have a sipper cup at every meal time but they mostly just chew on it and throw it over the side of the highchair to see how long it takes me to pick it up again.
But I do give them water from a bottle if they wake during the night.

Taine loves water in his baby pump bottle. We used to give the bottle to Jake but Taine would crawl up and nab it.

jack didn't really get into drinking water fully until he was at least 12mths old. now, it's all he wants, he prefers it over juice or fizzy! strange child
i've started to give charli a sipper cup of water or baby juice but she just chews it

I started to give James water when he started to eat solids he has a few mouth fulls here and there I sometimes squeeze an orange and dilute it he likes that better than water I just double the amount squeezed with water so 50mls of juice to 100mls of water.

I started giving Oliver water in a sipper cup with his meals when he started solids. For months he didn;t do anything more than chew it a bit but he has just started to get the hang of it in the last few weeks. I now give him some in the middle of the afternoon as well.

Thanks for that guys.. I will give him a sipper cup at each 'solid' meal time and see how we go. i do remember my first child drank from a straw cup before the sipper cup.
