They are testing for your blood type, rhesus status (positive or negative), Hep B & C, Rubella (and if you are immune to them), iron levels and possibly HIV.

I'm sure you can call up for the results. In fact, I think I did. HCG result? What kind of result would there be? Do you mean how high the HCG levels are? I don't recall anything like that, but then I do have a brain like a sieve these days |

I'm sorry, I really don't know. I don't think I was ever tested to see how high the level of HCG was - the cross appeared in the window when they did the preggy test - I think that was only measure they took. Again tho - brain like a sieve |

Hi there! The above replies have got it right about what is tested for in antenatal bloods but not HIV or HCG. These test would only be done if specially requested and generally you cant ring up the lab to get the results - but you can ring your midwife to get them. She should ring you if there was anything abnormal or she would just wait til she sees you next |

Don't fret - your GP will call you with the results if there are any problems. I know you can call the GP tho to get your results - I did - I doubt it's different in Auckland, and am sure you could do it in Welly too. You can speak to the nurse.

I got tested too for HIV - I think it's pretty much routine now. It's part of the new World Health guidelines.

I didn't get tested for HIV but then the midwife said that they usually look at background / age / sexuality etc - but in saying that my friends who have been preggaz after me have all had the HIV test... maybe I was lucky!

I think they asked me. I'm pretty sure I said yes, given the dodgy nature that I got preggo in the first place |
