Topic: Im a Kiwi now! Posted: 17 August 2007 at 11:39am |
Well, now you're all stuck with me -- I received New Zealand citizenship last evening, in the most ridiculous, amateurish, unrehearsed, disjointed and non-special ceremony I've ever attended in my life, for anything. It was so awful, I actually wrote a letter to the citizenship people complaining about it. But it's over, thank goodness. No more queueing at NZ Immigration at 2am; no more paying exorbitant fees to get various visas and permits; no more proving that yes, I am in a legitimate marriage; no more defining "permanent residency" to random shopkeepers who hear my accent and assume I'm a tourist; no more having to go in to looooooooooong queue at the airport after travelling overseas...

Come on, help me think of some more reasons why it's good to be a Kiwi!

Coz it means you get to back the All Blacks?
Coz you don't have to prove to an immigration officer that you have 'consumated' your marriage?
Congrats on becoming a Kiwi! LMAO, I think you described the ceremony better in your text last night, but I won't repeat it here

Congratulation on becoming a kiwi. Welcome to the club its a very exclusive one only 5 million members.
Best things about being a Kiwi.
Supporting the best rugby team in the world - as in they play other countries.
You will have to use Watties Tomato Sauce - not Heinz Ketchup.

Hey, you're right -- I forgot about this. When I applied for permanent residency, one of the criteria on the application was that we had to have "evidence of a physical relationship." My husband's uncle was so incensed by this, he rang up the immigration office and asked them if DH and I should make a sex video and send it in!

Congrats. I just got my citizenship from my mum sent to me from DIA no special ceremony. But then again i'm not willing to give up my citizenship from across the ditch.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

Congrats Katherine! Do you like BBQs and pavlovas? |
I love BBQs but I suck at making pavs (mine always implode). Eating them, I'm good at. But fleury, I can't give up my Heinz ketchup! I love it so much, we actually keep TWO spare bottles in the pantry in case the one in the fridge runs out! LOL

You and Willie would get on great, the man is a huge sauce fan and he doesn't care if it's Heinz or Watties...

Congratz!
Now you too can participate in being the brunt of all the 5 million kiwi/sheep jokes out there. The funny thing is most people live in cities and don't know what a sheep is like.
Now you can also:
Wear jandals (not flip-flops or thongs - even though those are fun to wear - so I've heard).
Play around in a schoolyard that has sheep droppings on it.
Drink Tui (yeah right).
Become part of the community of no-tall-poppy-ers. Then try to be that tall poppy.
Get called bro, even though your not a bro, and don't want to be a bro, but are one anyway.
Live on land that you bought, but you find out later it isn't yours.
Use no.8 wire (for everything - and when that doesn't work use duct tape.)
Have the most stunning woman as your countries leader.
Eat your weetbix with tomato sauce, or marmite whichever gets there first.
(Btw this is supposed to be a humorous post, but it could be taken wrong. Please take it as funny thing.)
Seriously though, congratulations!
