Topic: Anterior Placenta Posted: 20 December 2005 at 2:47pm |
Hi guys, just wondering if any of you had an anterior placenta in any of your pregnancies, and if this made any difference in your pregnancy or birth. I apparently have one, and have been told it's not overly common - but my (useless) midwife doesn't have any information for me around this.

I had an anterior placenta and there were no probs at all. It just made it harder to feel Joey at first (later on I felt him all the time!!) and sometimes it just took longer to find the heartbeat at check ups. My midwife said that it isn't uncommon and that there is nothing to worry about.

Hey i think i started a post about this when i was preg with Ayja as i had one too and was quite worried about it. but as Ana said all it meant was it took longer to feel bub move. As long as it is not low lying then it shouldn't make too much difference.

I had a low lying anterior placenta with Jayden, it caused alot of bleeding however it then righted itself later on in pregnancy, not sure how that part works. Anyhow he is now a very happy noisy four year old. So try not to worry to much.

This is awesome Thanks everyone. My placenta is Anterior High, so hopefully that should be ok. I have felt bubs move since about 15 weeks, and he/she has been so active ever since - last night I was cracking up to myself in bed as these little fists kept poking out the side of my tummy I love it!!!

Hi there, I have an anterior placenta, and my midwife said its reasonably common but it can mean a higher chance of a posterior baby because babies tend to face it. My midwife has given me strict instructions on my posture, seating position, time spent on hands & knees, etc to encourage baby to stay anterior. She said its more important closer to the end of pregnancy but she said its easier if I get into the habit now. My son was posterior presenting & I ended up with a c-section so I want to avoid that this time. That certainly doesn't mean thats what you will end up with but I'm going through this second time around so I know how important it can be.

Its only little things to do with how you sit, basically you just want to have your pelvis tilted foward. Top ones that were suggested to me were, sitting on a chair facing backwards so you can lean forward on the backrest, scrubbing floors, and vacuuming on hands & knees.

oooh actually i forgot to mention that... i was told the same - that baby's tend to try not to lie on the placenta... very brainy wee things.. but just do all the normal positioning stuff and you should be ok... Ayja took forever to turn and was transverse up till past 30-something weeks... i was a bit worried

I've already tried to change but everyone is booked up for April now I thought she was ok at first, but when I hear everyone else's stories about their midwives I realise she really gives me no guidance or information at all..... Good thing I have you cool chicks to talk about stuff with

I had an anterior placenta which was detected at the 18 week scan with my first pregnancy - they will give you another scan after 30 weeks to make sure it has moved up and out of the way which was the case for me.

I am due in a few days and have an Anterior Placenta. It hasn't made any difference to my pregnancy (dont know about the birth yet). The only thing was it was hard to find heart beat first few times and I didn't feel his movements for a while (but now I feel it all the time). My baby is apparently sitting in a good position for birth (and I hope he stays that way)so that has not been affected. The midwife has told me its all very normal.

i think jake's placenta was anterior too. He was posterior at birth, but his actual birth was quick and (relatively) easy. Don't stress aqbout that. it CAN make it more difficult, but doesn't necessarily.

Thanks guys My placenta is Anterior High, so according to my research all should be ok. I've not been told I need another scan - but will call my GP and ask her opinion after Christmas. Speaking of which - Merry Christmas everyone Liz, I hope all goes well for the birth of B2. And everyone else - have a wonderful festive season. From Clare, Jono and Bubble xxxxx
