Im only 6 weeks pregnant. My fiance and I had just moved to Papamoa and he works full time and I stay at home. I dont know anyone. Cant find a job because of being pregnant, and getting very depressed. Anyone have any ideas on what I can do? My dreams have all come true. I met a fantastic guy, having a baby, live in a nice home near the beach... Im just missin some friends. I lived in Australia for 8 years so most of my friends are over there. Its so hard not having a close friend whom I can talk to, meet up with, do stuff. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to read this and hope someone can come up with some ideas for me. Happy New Year all. take care.

hi kellverona! Sorry to here you're feeling so blue. It can be pretty rough justy moving, let alone going through baby and stuff. Maybe join an ante-natal group. you could try and meet others also pregnant and then you (hopefully) can get together after the kids are born too.
Or you can just come on Ohbaby all the time like the rest of us!

Heya Kellie!
Feel free to waste away your time on here! All the rest of us do it
I come on here as I don't have many (any.. oh actually one) mummy friends, being so young, but have made plenty of mummy mates on here!
Huge amount of support and good for a laugh
I'll bump up our introduction page so you can figure out who we all are.

Yep, antenatal (and ohbaby of course) are probably best ways of finding new friends. Have found that I get on best with other mums cos my other friends dont seem to understand what its all about!
And welcome Kellie!

Aimee, isn't it great being able to rabbit on about baby stuff without people trying to change the subject! My pre-baby friends just aren't as interested in jake's bowel movements as they could be!!

Hiya Kellie!! It is so rough moving to a new place. I moved to Sydney a while back knowing no one, it was so hard to meet people, the only thing that I found to help was to talk to absolutely everyone you meet and being pregnant and then having a baby is an excellent starting point of conversation! OhBaby is fab for meeting brilliant ladies or even try jumping on treasures.co.nz, there are heaps of people on there and there are bound to be people in your area! Hope it all gets easier!

Hi Kellie! I moved to NZ from Germany when I was 10 weeks pregnant and didn't know anyone either so I know how you feel. I have to say Oh Baby and the internet helped so much! I met people online and then later in perosn and it was great. I also met people at our antenatal class. It's not easy but I decided noone was going to come and "find" me so I had to get out there!!
Hope to see more of you on here!
Ana

Ana, I didn't know you were German!! I lived in Hamburg for a year when I was a teenager, and have been back a few times over the years. I love Germany. Don't love the weather tho I have to say Jeesh, I've become a soft Jafa!!!

Hi Kellie, welcome to Oh Baby.
My sister-in-law lives in Tauranga, and she told me there's some great antenatal groups around, so maybe when you sign up for classes (if you decide to) you can meet some mums that way.

also if you are only newly pregnant maybe a part time job, or temping. or a volunteer job.
and if you are near the beach, head down there and start up conversations with people, maybe those with young kids.. oh heres an idea - you could do babysitting, then you could meet other mums and maybe even have babysitters in return for when it is your turn.

We always found that when we were in Japan, going to the park was a great way to meet mums. Even when you are pregnant, reading a magazine or something. Often people (or kids) will come up to you and strike up a conversation. jake would often "visit" homeless drunk dodgy men in the park. I don't recommend that, but you can see it could work

You have plenty of time to get a job yet! I was studying for part of my pregnancy and then did temping for a while, until I was about 37 weeks.
All of the ideas here are great, there are tons of ways to meet people, maybe try and join a mothers coffee group or contact Plunket? Good luck :)

Clare - I was born there but we moved to NZ when I was 3 years old. I went back for a holiday when I finished Uni end of '99 (aaarrgh how old do I feel) and met my hubby. Ended up staying for 5 years in which time I pretty much lost contact with everyone here almost and the people I still know have no partners let alone babies!!!
