Ok, so not drama really... I jumped on the scales at mums today, the same scales i have always used to weigh myself so i know they are the same as always. And found that in the last year i have gained 10 kilos. again as i said, no biggy for some, I knew i'd gained a couple.. but 10??!! 10 kilos.
Right, as i sit here with a few lines of caramello choccy in front of me i have decided my original weight is more desirable and am embarking on an effort to get back there - for me it's really not so much about the weight side.. it's more about the wobbles that come with it - that and i ordered my dress to exactly fit my orginal weight - a few kilos here and there would be fine but am scared to even try it right now cos i know it won't fit.
For those who have/are loosing weight... how much have you lost, how long did it take, and what did you do?

Oh good luck. I lost 5kgs doing weight training through a personal trainer at a gym that took 12 weeks, but in all fairness I only put in a proper effort when the trainer was there to push me so probably could have lost it quicker with a bit more motivation.
I didn't really enjoy the gym environment so now I prefer to just take my dogs out walking/jogging and am just careful about what I eat........ I say with a box of empty guylian chocs sitting next to the computer But hey you have to have a treat now and then.

lol nope it never ends, and yeah i loved going to the gym when i did go but don't ever seem to have time for that so don't have a membershipo - i do however have gym ball, weights and strider so should be no excuse..
I mean, i have been larger (would post pics but I hate them so won't do it), for my little 5'2 frame.. largest was 80kgs which was when i was a nanny (all that home baking i made and ate on days off) The stress of nursing study made it fall off back to my 55kg just before i had Paris, stress from her (well, the PND) made me go down to around 51kgs when ayja was conceived (which i admit is too small) and i have sat around the 55 - 60ish mark back and forth since then.. however i know when i started at my job last year i was on the 55 line.. fitting size small scrubs.. have now had to move up a size in scrubs.
I just want to get on top of things before i get back up to that 80 again, i gues si know what i'm doing wrong with the snacks etc and heat and eats at work for dinner. It's just time and effort.

One thing I have found helpful (from time to time ) is to keep healthy snacks made up in the fridge. Of course then you'll have to keep Mike away from them hehe but it does make it easier to snack healthy. Things like cheese and pineapple, and carrot/vege sticks for example. They are yummy but often the "bother" is the reason for not having them.
Packed lunches etc are heaps nicer (I have found) with shaved deli meat in them. Buy it from anywhere except Pak n Save LOL. If you have some handy you may be happy to eat that instead of a heat n eat - if you are hungry for sustenance but not for a full meal.
Otherwise the next thing is to cook double meals. Two at a time so that one goes in the freezer. Great for mince etc dishes. Yesterday I made up two potato top mince pies and put them in the freezer for a rainy day (which is just as well because DH now has his finger all bandaged up after nearly losing the tip of it to the garage door this morning!!) The trouble with freezer meals is small freezers - I can't remember if you have a chest freezer or not.
And all of that aside, I checked out your BMI and 55-60 looks fine (and is lighter than me)

portion sizes. I am doing 'the biggest loser' at work. In 3 weeks I have lost 2.2kgs by just watching my portion sizes - instead of eating that 'whole' big bag a chippes (corn chips are my worst vice) I grab about 6 and thats my fill. Also dinner I watch the portion sizes. Instead of 4 weetbix I have 2. Also helps to have a bit of will power to go with it. I pretend - I can't eat anymore so no desert.
I agree that snacks should be healthy - rice crackers is my snack. or apples or bananas.
Drinks lots of water - if you get peekish outside of meal times - drink a big glass of water should fill you quicker...
good luck - I be losing the weight with ya

I lost 10kg after I got married - it took me a year, but I did it with low-impact exercise (walking), and watching what I ate. I tried to keep snacks to a minimum, and did the whole fist sized-portion sizes thing.
At the moment, I'm trying to cut back on eating waaaay too many yummies, increasing my exercise (doing harder walks with the dogs) and again, with the portion sizes. Here's hoping that in the 2 months before Christmas, my bum (and things ... argh thighs!!) reduces slightly!!

Shift work and hospitals seems to be really bad for weight gain. There are so many overweight nurses at work. I found I put on quite a bit of weight when I started work as there always seems to be morning teas for people leaving etc etc and the cafe is always just there as well.
I have lost 10kgs twice at WW - once before I got married, then after I had Hannah. Plan to do the same again after this one. It has only ever taken me about 4 months to lose that much and both times have lost 5kg in the first month. Just by doing exercise most days (all I did was walk) and cutting back on portions and naughty foods, it fell off. I love WW as going to the meetings and weighing in really kept me focused and bcause you can eat anything, its more of a lifestyle change so easy to maintain afterwards.
Good luck

i'm doing ww as well - if you do decide to go that route yell out as I have coupons. started last week so no idea how much i have lost, but i am really concentrated on the "mindless" eating. just popping things into my mouth and not thinking. new rule is "must sit when eating". seems to be helping. shift work sucks for eating properly - ask my dad and husband! pre-making meals I would say, and snacks.

I'm currently doing a no-added sugar diet... where I've cut out all refined sugar (both stuff I add, and products that have sugar added to them) Naturally occurring sugar is ok (in stuff like fruit, pure fruit juice, milk etc). I'm not doing mine for weight loss, as I'm preggy, but just for general health and in order to break the sugar addiction. However, a good friend of mine (who started me on it) has lost 3.5kgs in the past 9 days just from cutting out all added sugar.
I could go on and on and on... but... I don't want to bore you ;-) so if you want more info (and background reading) check out this link (Best to read from bottom up)

lol have just sat and written out a plan for exercise for 4-day rotations, between a walk, gym ball/pilates vid workout, weights and strider workout and rest day too, i think by alternating and having a rest day and a low impact day too it should help keep things good. that and you guys here to keep me on track too.
I don't tend to add sugar to anything, i don't add salt, and i don't eat chips etc, it tends to be the choccy bars from the snack box at work (at the end of a hard day when i go out to do handover they call to me... lol) That and the heat-and-eats - icky cafe meals aren't great so stopped doing those, Not too bad when i'm at home cos we make sure there's always plenty of veges on the plate and lunches with the girls we do lots of fruit etc too and not too much junk. I agree with you liz, i am the worst for snacking, if it's int he cupboard, i eat it.. hence why i don't like to buy much - although i must say i convinced mike to cut out the choccy bickies form the shopping list - we get superwines and gingernuts which i am not a fan of really in large proportions. It's just getting that motivation back - like you said Teresa.. its the time and effort to make things really (and yep, we only have a tiny freezer on the fridge)
We tend to be good around the beginning of the fortnight after shopping as theres plenty of salads and wraps which is wha ti usually do, yummy salad rolls etc, just gets a bit sparse after that, might have to do a fruit and vege shop weekly maybe.

Since my shopping meltdown which spurred me into my weight loss, I have lost 300grams. I'm a believer of the slowly, slowly does it. If you loose big amounts too quickly you'll just end up putting it all back on.
I've upped the walking (something that is actually fun with a new born anyway!), upped the water intake and I'm watching my snacks. I could live in the fridge and pantry if I let myself!!!
I still had my cake on Wednesday at coffee group. If I deny myself I end up giving up anyway.
Now, saying all that, it was my 30th on the weekend and I ate like a queen!!!!

Kandice- ww is $17-90 a week, or $15-90 for community services card - cost $35 to join - but they often have specials and as I said, i have free joining coupons valid til the 24th of november that i will send to whoever.
janine - have you thought about doing a fortnightly shop but doing a weekly fruit and vege shop at the market? we go to the sunday markets with mum - open until 11 and lots of parking *unlike albert st) and heaps of variety. the potatoes and beautiful and lots of fresch fruit and veges, including chinese veges which i love. heaps cheaper too. we spend $30 a week and my boys eat about 5 apples a day if I would let them.
