Topic: What do you teach Posted: 19 January 2008 at 11:28pm |
your kids to call their private parts.
Are you going for the anantomical correct names or do you have other names you have taught them.
I always taught my girls the anatomic names but when Mercedes could talk she changed it to front bum and back bum then when she got older she called hers a fanny and mine a vagina and when I asked her why she said "b'cos little girls have fannys and big ladies have vaginas with hair" LOL so I just let them call it what they want.
Now I dont know what I am going to teach Alize
Just wondering what everyone is or has decided to do.

I started off teaching C & N the proper names, but Nyah couldn't say Vagina, so she now calls it Fanny and she told me Penis is a yucky word, so she now calls it Willy. So we just go with that.
I'll probably teach Cooper that it's Fanny and Willy too.
It's one of those things that I'm not going to get stressed about if they want to call it that, so be it..

Andrew calls his, his peepee. But he does know that it is called a Penis as they do a keeping ourselves safe program for pre schoolers and get them to know what the real names are.

lol I don't really know, the girls have kinda adapted their own names for them but we have the fanny, and the front bottom and back bottom and apparently we tried the doodle word but ayja called it a noodle (which sounded more like noodoo) so it's a bit of a joke in our house, we don't really stress too much. they know the names, whatever they use is fine

I am all for teaching the correct names, but if kids come up with their own as well as knowing the right names that that is all good.

Wow, such fun stuff to look forward to once they learn these words, do they go around saying to strangers 'I have a vagina, and mummy has a vagina and Daddy/brother has a penis' in the middle of the supermarket for example?! I guess that's less embarassing than them saying 'why is that lady FAT, mummy?'
Oh jeepers!

When Nyah was younger, she'd announce to anyone who'd listen that Daddy had a willy and mummy had a fanny! So embarassing, but sooooo funny at the same time.

Only my Mercedes is prone to that sort of talk but Lesieli is alot more reserved and shy. Hoping Alize is like Lesieli
I was just wondering as I have many parents ask my what they should call them for their kids. I just say teach them the correct terms, but also use what ever names you and your children feel comfortable with.

Meh, if the people they are announcing it to aren't aware that mum has a vagina and dada penis, then they are either too young or too stupid to care! It is all good to have people not afraid to use those words - part of the ideas behind preventing sexual abuse is to make these things less taboo.

We will teach the correct terminology, but will be fine with other names as long as they're not derogatory. The coolest thing I ever saw was in a school I was in there were Year 7 & 8 students doing a sexual health programme and they were putting their hands up answering questions about all the body parts without any embarrassment. Quite cool I thought.

Brooke still calls hersher 'private parts' but like all the others knows the right words for them just choses not to use them (she doesn't like fanny and penis)
as for rhyley never really had to use the word to him yet but I call it a willy if I did...
