lol, no he hasn't agreed to one, however, just out of interest,
who's man has had one done?,
how much did it cost?
and how long afterwards did it take you to get preggers?
Also, what is the process etc?

Paris keeps asking him why we can't have another, he keeps saying he loves me preggers, I keep telling him i'd love to BE preggers, and well, I just want the facts to see if it's really all over.

From memory Purple Dragon's DH has had one and they are TTC. A friend in Oz's hubby had one in Feb and she got pregnant in September.

I was told that he can cost about $3000 I think from memory. I think Lulu's DH had one done as well.

The vasectomy - $400 or so. The reversal - 3k - if only! Try in the $6k-$7k region. The best chances of success for reversal are in the first three years, the sooner the better. In a small percentage of reversals (about 6%) scar tissue can gradually build up over time so an initially successful reversal can in effect be useless, however, storage of sperm retrieved after the reversal is an option. Sperm starts to come back after about 6 weeks, and takes 3-8 months to come back to normal. One of the unpredictable side effects is the development of antibodies, but I think a sperm wash in the lab can take care of that problem (probably more complicated than that).

This site has good information too.

Our doctor recommends a week off work as well because it is a general anaesthetic and just in case

Hi Mum2Paris
Yes my hubby had a reversal last March.
His Reversal cost just over $5000,I am pretty sure it can be less, just depends on where you go.
You sound like me last year, lol.
Any way his only cost so much as he had to stay in over night as they had to deal with scar tissue from an operation he had when he was a child as well as the scar tissue from his vasectomy.
We had a wonderful surgeon, who said it doesn't really matter what time is between vasectomy and reversal as he has heard of people who have had 10-20yrs between V and VR and still got pregnant really easy. So it just all depends. I do know that it is recommend, which I was never told, that if hubbys swimmers don't return on their own, sometimes they need a bit of help. DH has been on vitmains and homopathic stuff to help with count and motility as it did not return on it's own.

http://www.vrsupportgroup.proboards102.com/
This is a american website, but it is really helpful for people to ask questions before and after the VR.
Also if you are a memeber of Fertility Friend, there is a group in the community thread who are all ttcing after a VR.

No we are not pregnant yet,but we alway have our fingers crossed. As hubby is motility is back to normal and we are yet to do another Swimmer sample to confirm his count again. But will do that after this cycle, hopefully I won't ,or should I say hubby won't need to,lol.
Any way if you have any other questions, feel free to ask.
Oh we got referred to our specialist, but our doctor, but he was the man who did the original vasectomy so we knew him well. It had only been 18mths since vasectomy so when he saw us back in,he just laughed.

Thanks Tania and all the other ladies who have replied.

No, I don't think a petition would do it sadly,
and definately with that amount of money involved I don't think he would be willing at all to budge. sucks really.

Hi mum2Paris

Sorry you haven't got the news you'd hoped for, but to further confirm things re cost, my DH had a reversal 2 years ago, which cost $5k, and his sperm count is still low, even though he's had a little acupuncture and lots of herbs and vitamins - mind you it has improved a lot from the first few months. So we're having IUI in the next few days. The surgeon did say though, that the longer the time between the ectomy and the reversal the less likely the chances of success, and it had been many years for DH.
Re the sperm wash thing, that also (I believe) requires IUI (about $700 per cycle, if not puclicly funded) or IVF.

My friend's husband had his reversed a few years ago and it took them six rounds of IVF to have their little girl. So from memory she said the reversal cost around $4k, but then it was another $40ish grand on top of that for all the IVF stuff.

It was pretty awful for them but they have a healthy little girl now.
