Topic: IUD Ladies (poss TMI!) Posted: 07 February 2008 at 10:45am |
Does anyone know how serious it is if your IUD goes missing?
I'm guessing its not that unusual to lose the strings once its been in for a while? And to be honest I haven't been checking them as regularly as they recommend, but I've never had any trouble finding them before.
I don't think there is any chance that it has come out without me noticing so it must be floating around up there somewhere, or more likely just a bit buried!
Is this a 'Get thyself to the Dr or ye will be with child and consequentially insane" or is it slightly less worrying and more "Get thyself to the Dr cos that thing is floating round ripping up thy insides" or not really a concern but "Next time ye find thyself at the Dr ask about AWOL IUD's potential for doom"?
TIA!!

Is it possible the strings have gotten lost up inside you??
It wouldn't be any harm getting a scan just to make sure all is in good order thou.

Um 'Get thyself to the Dr or ye will be with child and consequentially insane" PMSL! They are plastic so unlikely to be ripping things up but you can get preggy with them....Proof is myself!

I'd say go get it checked just in case Mel, with the Mirena you're less likely to get preggy if it's come loose coz you still have the hormones it's releasing, but it's probably still worth 'finding it'.

I just had to go and re-read your post and laughed very much out loud. Luckily no one is back from lunch yet otherwise it'd be very obvious that I am NOT working.

Ah you crack me up Mel!! I would go get it checked as well. I would spend too much time worrying about getting preggy otherwise!

I was told its very common for the strings to coil up inside ya so ya can't feel them but it doesn't mean its floating around. Also some ladies have had them fall out without noticing but lets hope thats not you.
I'd go to the Dr just to make sure it hasn't fallen out and a wee surprise has taken its place

How did you get on Mel?? IS it still in place. I did some thinking and as you have the mirena in it'll still be releasing the drugs into your body.

Hey all, thanks for all the replies!
Hehe, always happy to entertain you Nicky and Ginger!
I'm not too stressed about it now that you've put my mind at rest about the pregnancy risk Emma and Becks
I'll see if hubby has any more luck finding them than I did (How very kinky and romantic huh? ), I'm sure its still hiding in there somewhere! Otherwise I'll make an appointment with the Dr tomorrow.
Ana! That's a bit shocking!! Ditto what Emma said!

Any luck finding it Mel? I'm pretty sure you'd notice if it came out.
