Topic: Help - Hair Dye Posted: 07 February 2008 at 3:01pm |
Hi ladies
Since I am no longer working I have decided to give up getting my hair coloured at the hairdresser , saving us about $170 (including a cut but ouch!) every 7-8 weeks.
I only dye my hair to cover the greys that come through (thanks Mum for passing on the "grey gene"!). Does anyone know of a DIY hair dye kit that actually covers those pesky little greys? I remember years ago colouring my own hair & the greys always seemed to remain . Thanks.

No idea, but will be lurking waiting for ideas, I am about 30% grey and need to do something with my hair before a photoshoot on Mon but don't have time to go to the hairdresser.

Let's hope the ideas coming flooding in then Emma so you can be looking your best on Monday .
I may end up trying Excellence Creme by L'Oreal as Andie McDowell says it covers greys...

My SIL is a hair dresser and everytime she has done my hair "box" dye she has used Nice & Easy. She reckons it is one of the best.
Not sure about grey coverage but hope this helps.

My mum uses loreal preference and it seems to do the job, not the cheapest option tho. I'd go into the chemist (although they are cheaper at warehouse/supermarket/kmart) and maybe ask one of the ladies there or read all the boxes cos I know some are made especially for it.

I use Nice & Easy and it seems to work ok.
I've tried a few others but they hurt my head (burning sensation) so I'm too nervous to leave them on long enough in case all my hair falls out hehe.

I'm a huge fan of Garnier Frutis. Costs around $12. It has REALLY good coverage and the colours are very natural looking, and it's very easy to use.
Emma I'll do your hair for you if you want? Not doing anything this weekend.

Have you thought about henna? My SIL swears by some of the natural products out there, and she does hers every 6-8 weeks to cover the greys and her hair always looks glossy and shiny. I think she said she gets hers from Lush...?

Would you really? That would be awesome! I've gotten myself into a pregnancy rut and haven't done anything with it for, oh, about 17 weeks or so

I colour my own hair and always use nice and easy, you can sometimes get it cheap at the warehouse.
The other one I've been recommended by hairdressers but haven't used my self is the ones in the big red boxes (can't remember the name you get from the chemist, they usually have a secondary colour in them.
