If you don't feel comfortable with her or you don't find her helpful then change. You have to put a lot of trust in her. I am 15 weeks and i still don't have a midwife. The first two i tried have August off and the one i have my next appointment with is off for four weeks now. I'm not having very good luck.

I changed midwives at around 18 weeks. You can do it anytime. It is much better you are happy and comfortable. You should book in now, as you should have had a 12 week scan. Just look in yur phone book, as friends or ring the hospital where yu wil be having baby and ask there.

i would book in with someone purely coz there is a shortage of midwives in nz at the moment and u want to be able to get one that can deliver when ur due.

I never had a 12 week scan only a 8 week and 18 week one

change now if you are not happy, your midwife is a really important person and you should be with someone you feel comfortable with.

I'm thinking about changing my midwife too, not that she has been outright nasty or rude at all, but I'm not feeling all that supported. She's lovely, but I could definitely be more comfortable - most of you have probably noted my distaste for how everything I brought up with her at my last visit was simply "normal" ~sigh~ Mind you, we'll be moving to the North Shore soon, so will probably have to end up changing anway - am contemplating trying to find an independent midwife, but we'll see.

I initially had a new graduate midwife which was ok amd she was really nice but had to keep asking her supervisor about all my questions, so didnt feel completely confident with her. Anyway we ended up shifting so I had to change at about 20 weeks, and I am sooo glad I didnt end up having her deliver Hannah. Change if you are having ANY doubts at all, yuou've still got heaps of time.

I am goign to try Maternity associates on the shore, there are 12 midwives there and you can meet as many as you want till you find the one you like, and I have heard excellent things about them - but I mean I dont know for sure so I am just going to find out for myself....
