Topic: Its finally happened... Posted: 28 February 2008 at 1:53pm |
Despite much stalling and resistance on my part, my baby girl has turned five, graduated from preschool and started "big school"!
I was a mess all day yesterday, bawling my eyes out. Big thanks to Gandt for being miserable with me all day so I didn't have to be miserable by myself and to my hot chocolate girls for feeding me brownie and ice cream which always makes a girl feel better.
She had her official preschool graduation yesterday afternoon, it was really special. The kids all sang Happy Leaving Day, her favorite teacher, Mike, gave her her graduation certificate and a present from the teachers (a really cool giant My Little Pony), and then the gremlins got to hang out with her for afternoon tea and play in the playground until it was home time. I was howling my eyes out the whole time, but I did feel a bit better when one of the other mums came to pick up her son and said she had been the same when her older one moved up to school so I'm not the only nutter!
We went to Countdown and she picked out some special treats for her lunchbox (Rice Wheelies, Oreos and plums) and came home and she packed her brand new school bag with her togs coz Thurs is swimming day at big school, and this morning she got up soooo excited.
When I took her into her classroom she wasn't shy at all, she marched straight up to her teacher and started chatting away, then the bell went and she was like "see ya later mum!" No worries at all, she's soooo ready for school! It's me that's not!
I keep wanting to ring the school and see how she's doing but I've managed to stop myself coz I don't want to be a neurotic, OP mum. Not too long till I can pick her up and hear how her first day went!
We're having a special birthday BBQ for her tonight and her godmother put a birthday call on Classic Hits for her this morning, and the nanny has baked her a banana cake with M and M's on top so she is a pretty spoilt girl! Willie is stopping at Farmers on his way home to pick up her birthday present (a dolls bed for Fussy that she saw a few weeks ago in the catalogue) and I am giving her a doll that my grandmother gave me when I turned 5, it's wearing a wedding dress and veil that my grandma hand made entirely from lace with pearl buttons so I want to pass it on to Maya.
I can't believe my big girl is all grown up! I'll have to stop calling her my baby!

Congratulations Emma, you've survived her first day at school! Yes, it's tough (they seem so little still!) but so great at the same time.
Happy birthday Maya!
