Ok so, I know when you say 'herbal tea' some people start jumping up and down straight away and dump on them as all being bad while you're pregnant - however, I know this isn't quite true The reason I bring this up is I had a good clean out of my pantry, fridge and freezer today before we went out for more groceries (side note: you would not BELIEVE the crap that was **still** in there from that nasty ex-flatmate of ours !!)... and I'll warn you all now, I used to be a bit of a tea addict.
So after this clean out, I have more than *twenty* different boxes of tea Lots and lots of green tea, a fair bit of fruit tea, turkish apple tea (which is more like apple cider), ginger and lemon tea, indian chai, regular old english breakfast - you name it, I have it !! My question is, what types of tea are we really really REALLY not meant to have? Despite the great volumes of tea that I have, I don't drink it that often - although DH says I should make a start so we don't have to pack a box especially for it when we move house! |

LOL no worries... DH = dear husband, and you can apply that to a lot of other things as well, ie: DD = dear daughter, DS = dear son, MIL = mother in law, FIL = father in law, etc ! Hope that helps |

i know they recommend raspberry leaf tea after 32 weeks, not before. camomille is a huge no-no. not sure about the rest. sometimes they say on the packet.

As far as I am aware of drinking pure green tea is safe. I noticed on a packet of green tea with wild raspberry that it is recommended that you have no more than 1 cup per day if you are pregnant. I also think that peppermint tea is safe. Basically anything that doesn't have caffeine in it.

I've just been on the Healtheries website which outlines what herbal teas can and shouldn't be taken. A lot of them they recommend on 1 cup a day.

It looks like I've drunk some teas that I shouldn't have, oops!

Not a big fan of chamomile anyway, so it will be easy to avoid ! But sounds like most everything else, except raspberry, should be ok *readies herself for a tea drinking marathon* |

I think you are right about chamomile causing miscarriage (quick search on net) but I'm pretty sure it has to be a pretty big dose. All the info on the net referred to avoiding Chamomile oil but I think tea is a weak enough dose that it doesn't have the same effect

raspberry may be okay but raspberry LEAF is okay after 32 weeks and in fact can help in child-birth. i drank it with both my boys and had quick labours with little interference. It is saisd to cause premature labour - both children were overdue - Jake was induced 14 days after dd and Taine was 8 days late.

My mum gave me chamomile tea when I was preg with Maya to help with indigestion. Guess I won't be doing that again...

I don't think I'd worry about it too much... I'm sure one or two cups a day is fine

another thing to look at with alot of herbal teas is the ingredients - for instance lemon and ginger tea - my mum used to have that every night, and once she stopped having it she went through terrible withdrawals... it wasn't until she talked toher doc, and looked ont he igredients list that she found that tea had hibiscus in it - which is well known to have addictive qualities and help you sleep - so even if you think the name sounds perfectly fine - make sure you read the label - most now will sayon the side if they are definately not for use while pregnant.
