Out of curiosity, how many of you had/are going to get a scan done at around 12 or 13 weeks?

I was well past that when I found out I was pregnant with Kiya, so it wasn't an option...
I had one at 12 weeks with Josiah, but it was for bleeding rather than to check on the baby... if I wasn't bleeding I wouldn't have had the option...
I won't be having a scan this time before 20 weeks unless something goes wrong; it's not an option for me at all...

I dont know whether I will get offered one at 12 weeks. At present, I'm booked for an 7-8 weeks one on Monday next week. When the doc gave me the form for it at my confirmation appointment, I thought that it was the norm to get one a 7-8 weeks, so I've surprised to hear the number of people that dont get one till 18 weeks or later?

I had one at 12 weeks - Nuchal Translucency scan. That's the test for Downs Syndrome and other genetic abnormalities. Think it's done once you get to about 30 or so - you're too young for it!!

I got a dating scan at 7 weeks, and didn't have another until 19 weeks for the anatomy scan. My midwife was against sending me for the 12 week (nuchal fold) scan because my downs risk was so low.

I haven't had a dating scan either... which suprised me, as I found out I was pregnant so far along! My midwife is happy to go off my period date - good thing I'd been keeping good records this year!
I didn't have a dating scan with Josiah, but I knew very well how far along I was, as we concieved him a couple of weeks after I came off the pill. I did have scans at 7, 11 and 12 weeks, but they were all for excessive bleeding.

In Japan, I had one every month with jake, with Taine I had one when I found out I was pregnant (16 weeks), and then didn't go back to the doctor! Got another one in NZ at 33 weeks.

I had one with Maya and planned to again with this baby - my midwife offered me the choice as my risk is low too due to age. I will still have it with the twins but will also have to have fortnightly scans from about 15 weeks probably to check that they are behaving themselves and that one is not starving the other.

With Kobe I had the 12 week, 18 week and then had another few when I went into hospital with him but they were for size initially and then more for the cleft. With this one we had a 7 week scan to make sure everything was ok after a m/c last time, a 12 weeks scan, 20 weeks scan and will also get one around 34 weeks to check for cleft.

What I find interesting, is that I wasn't offered the choice with Josiah or this time. Granted I had a couple of scans around that stage with Josiah, but they were for bleeding, so focused more on the placenta and my other organs than on the baby!

I don't see her again until 16 weeks, then I'll have my anatomy scan a few weeks later (she's made a special request on my behalf for it to be a particular time and day so that Nat can come too)... so there isn't really much point!
I was suprised she was prepared to take my dates from my period (I've only had one this year) given I've had random bleeding as well (probably implantation bleeds)

Yeah that is surprising. You could ring her and get her to fax a form straight to the scan place if you want to get one done. I don't think I could wait - I would go crazy!

I had the NT one at 13weeks. I also had one at 6 weeks but that was due to a suspected miscarriage last year so my doc wanted to be sure all was fine and it was good reassurance for me to!

I had nuchal scan at 12 weeks just to see how high the risk is for Downs Syndrome. Very low chance but i thought I may as well so I can see baby as well and that all is going well.

I had the 12 week scan for nuchal fold test for Downs Syndrome, then the anatomy one just before 20 weeks and my midwife says that as all is going so well "textbook baby" I won't need anymore scans - I was gutted because we really wanted to find out the sex, but I'd rather have no more scans knowing that baby was OK than have a scan because something was wrong
