Topic: Contraception???? Posted: 05 June 2008 at 4:09pm |
So I am at a bit of a dilemma as far as contraception is concerned. Is there ANY other forms of contraception other than pill, injection, IUD or condoms? The first 3 options don't work for me so unless I can find something else then I'm off to stock up on condoms now that Hubby & I are um.... back in the saddle so to speak!!

LOL I'm going to have to do some investigating I guess but will probably just stick with the trust condoms!
Just interesting too see what else might be available.

I don't think the diapharm is as reliable as the others.

DH won't have the snip, so thats out LOL
I just wish I had a bit more of a selection when it comes to contraception. I will probably stick with the condoms if the diaphram isn't as good.
Not really willing to risk getting pregnant again! Love babies but three is enough for us

Diaphrams are a good form of contraception when used with spermicide. They do have to be fitted first (so you get the right size) and it does take some practise to put it in and take it out properly. The Family planning website has some good info on it.
The dowmside to it is that its not very romantic e.g you kinda have to plan it so that its in or stop and put it in.
I don't personally use one but teach Sexuality at secondary schools.
I would imagine that you would be wise to leave it for 2-3months to let thinsg settle before getting fitted as I am sure that it will change in the next wee bit - I think they are about around the $100- $200 mark but am not sure and can't remember how long they last (secondary students never ask these questions as are really only interested in the pill and condoms

We are in the same boat we really have no option's that suit us other then the condom's which I hate as I often end up with UTI's. And the snip etc is not an option as we are not really sure how many babies we really want and we never want to do anything permint till we are totally sure. Diaphram sound's a little awful to use for me. I guess there is alway abstance Yeah right think my DH would die at teh thougth.
by the way congrat's on the bith that is so cool and amazing well done!!! What a great way to have your last baby.

What about a mirena? They are a bit more reliable than the standard IUD as they use hormones and the IUD part. I think they are almost as reliable as the snip.

That's what I was thinking... 3 kids with the youngest only be what... 1 WEEK OLD! You're a
A lecturer at uni used a diaphragm (lol I did sex ed too, but primary) and perfectly planned her kids. She said it was really reliable when it was the fashion back in the 80's/90's. Not sure on the stats though. But yeah you do have to wait as you get measured on the size of your cervix I think, which will take a while to get back to normal.
