Sorry to hear about your loss. We have a lab who is almost two and I know how attached you can get to pets.

When our cat died we got a new cat within a month. I don't think you need to wait too long as it is so hard to not have a pet in the house after they are gone.

This might sound kinda stupid but I think you'll know when you are ready, I don't think there is set frame as such. Maybe just when the right puppy sticks his paws all over your heart.

Hehehe yeah that was paws as in paw prints not paws as in me 'cos impressions of me would look pretty silly but.....oh never mind!

Poem for ya instead! You've prolly seen it but it's nice to re-read at a time like this anyway...

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

We had to have our old boy put down earlier this year, and although it was really hard, the new puppy made it easier for DH to deal with.  Rocky was his best mate, he took him everywhere, so he was hit pretty hard.  But having the puppy made the transition a bit easier.

Awww Paws that is a lovely poem.

Well you know what I think and waiting till the time is right to get a new puppy. Possibly next year or the year after that.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

I think you do it when you are ready - if the timing feels right to you, then that's what matters.

for losing Bronson - 2 years is too young

ahhh the rainbow bridge....

sorry to hear about bronson..2yrs if far too young

as far as getting a dog, only you can answer that question. on one hand, it can help the grieving process to have a dog around to love, but on the other hand, some people need time so they don't feel like they are 'replacing' the pet that passed........does that make sense?

When our cat was getting old my parents tried to circumvent the whole replacement process by getting another cat so we could get used to him BEFORE Jill died. Well she ended up outlasting 2 of the cats we bought to replace her and living another 8 years till she was 22.

well you could always take it slowly, casually look for another pup and if one comes up that you feel right about, then bring it home
