    Posted: 13 June 2008 at 6:29pm
I just had one of these this morning, and from about half an hour after I had it done Ive been feeling really crampy, quite a strong crampy feeling aswell.

For those who have had it done, did you feel crampy afterwards even if the s&s didnt work?
And if it did work, how long did it take?

My MW said that my cervix is soft, but Im not dilated yet, though she did manage to do the stretch and sweep, and she felt babies head

She doesnt think i will be having baby this weekend though

I felt cramps immediately after - more like period cramps, but they weren't overly sore and they didn't increase in intensity. I had 2 S&S and they didn't work because Bella never engaged, though I hear they are great if you are almost ready - sort of tip you over the edge so to speak

Hope something happens for you!

Yup I had cramping and in fact I felt like she'd scratched me too while doing the business (TMI) The cramping lasted a day and a bit then disappeared, and he arrived a week later.

Are the cramps really low like by your pubic bone or higher by your belly button??

Oh ok, yeah caden is well engaged, MW said he is "Well down there".
My cramps feel stronger than a period cramp, a different kind of ache and they are in my back aswell.

Ohh congrats on the pregnancy shellandbella!!!!

They are low, like in my pelvic area and in my lower back, and my tummy feels hard and heavy. Thats the best way I can describe it....

Thanks - sounds promising...did you have more of your show?? All you can do is wait, I was induced but it still took about 8 hours for me to really 'know' I was in labour!

I had the s and s on the Tues, had some cramping immediately after but only for a few hours, then had a show on the Wed and more on the Thurs. I was 2cm dilated at the s and s and 4cm dilated when I went to be induced on the Sat.

I had a few with Jack, they never really worked but I always got quite crampy after.

With Caprece I had one on the Thurs, midwife said she had turned posterior and un-engaged so she didn't think Caprece would be coming any time soon. I went for a huge walk that night and had special cuddles (This is way TMI but I gave a BJ and then just at the very end it turned into special cuddles, I was too sore for special cuddles so this worked out well ) and I went into labour the next day and she was born early the next morning.

Didn't have one with Andrew.

but with Josh my MW did a real good job on it on Monday and I was crampy afterwards. Was induced on Wednesday morning and Josh arrived at 7.08pm that night.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

i'm just going to be really ignorant here and ask - what's a "stretch & sweep", i mean it sounds like it would be sort of self-explanatory but is that right?

Where the doc/midwife stretches the cervix and sweeps the membranes around the babys head. Its supposed to help trigger labour, or get things going at least.

I had one on the Tuesday afternoon and was 2cm dilated. Had strong cramping on the way home and contractions started soon after. Went into hospital the following evening and had baby Thursday midday. I ended up needing syntocinin (sp), as things slowed right down once I had an epi.

Sounds like it won't be long for you now!

My cramping has stopped, boo hoo

I wasnt dilated at all so thats why she said she doent think it will be this weekend

Anyone not been dilated and had one done and still gone into labour a few hours/days after?
MY cervix was soft enough for her to feel babys head so thats gotta be a good sign right?

I wasnt dialated when I went for my one week overdue check So had s&s although they said it probably wouldnt help me much then 1 week 4 days OD we planned the induction for 1 week 6 then she decided that wasn't going to happen and I went into labour on the morning of 1 week 5 days overdue!

I had cramps for so long before and tons of BH and false starts and it still didnt dialate me at all!!! That is what sucked really bad. But at least now you know that withing the next week your baby will be here one way or another!!

Have you walked heaps?
