    Posted: 26 June 2008 at 2:14pm
I'm starting work (teaching) on Monday for 2 1/2 days a week. I have mixed feelings about it all... I went in to the school this morning to meet with the teacher I'm taking over and talk about the lessons etc. The kids seem great and the school is supportive of me being a working mum (Harry will be brought in at lunchtime so I can breastfeed). And my boy is being looked after DH one day, my mum the next and our friend the half day. This morning my sis looked after him and he was happy as larry.

But now I'm sitting here in tears

Please tell me I'm not mad and I can manage this

You CAN manage this hun!

Boy, but its tough the first wee while though. When I went back to work I would sit in the loo bawling my eyes out, for at leat 10 mins a day.

But just think - your boy is having special time with three other people who absolutely adore him, and you are getting time to be someone outside of Harry's mummy. Which is a positive thing.

And when you get to them at the end of the day its the most fantastic feeling! You just wanna cuddle and squish them for hours! I still get soooooo excited driving up the daycare driveway, and when he runs and jumps into my arms.... well, it's mummy heaven

It'll all be ok - trust me

Oh Liz
You're not mad at all!

I think it's completely natural to feel that way. It's a wrench leaving your wee one, I'm sure.
But once you're in the groove you'll be fine.
You'll probably be so busy you won't have time to miss him, but at least you know if you do miss him you'll see him soon

Thanks guys. You sure know what to say to make a girl bawl. You know I don't know why I'm so upset about it today. I started working part-time a couple on months ago (twice a week for 2-4 hours at once) and I didn't miss Harry too much cos you're right, I was too busy to miss him!! And this morning I was fine when I was at work, just focused on school stuff.

Maybe it's just cos I realised how much work teaching is and how it's a job that I'll have to take home with me. And maybe I just realised that I can't really afford to breakdown at work cos I'll be teaching a classroom of 31 kids and have to be on the top of my game all the time. Or maybe I just realised how much responsibility I'm gonna have everywhere, trying to keep the house stuff going as well as getting used to a new school, new kids, new topics. I think I'm just overwhelmed with it all. I just really hope I can handle it cos I don't like letting people down.

I dont know what I am going to do, but I am going to try for a year off work. Hopefully if I need to go back to work that my employer will let me come back part time.

You are being very strong and very proud of you, it must be really hard. When it comes to my time ill be a mess I think.

You are so not mad at all.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

I am going to be in your position soon. I am going back to work full time on the 12th August. I want to go back, but I know it will be really hard to not spend all day everyday with my gorgeous boy! I don't need to financially, but mentally I think I do! However have decided that if it isn't working, then I can always resign.... No job is worth more than my family.

You can manage it and you'll be great! It is hard to begin with but it makes the time that you are with Harry even more special.

I'll be heading back to work full-time at the end of August and even though I've done it before and know that it benefits our whole family, its still hard.

Our baby isn't even born yet and already I'm dreading having to come back to work. Baby will be 5 months (ish) when I come back full time in January and SIL is looking after him/her for two months so at least I don't have to put Baby straight into full time day care.

I'm already jealous of the time someone else will be spending with Baby, and I want to cry too.

Maybe we'll win the lotto....

Awwww Liz, good luck! Harry will be a legend as always, and your kids will be so glad to see you back, I bet they missed you.

Mandz - my nanny costs me $16 an hour which is average for Akl (going rate is between $14-$18 according to the agency). Homebased care (in someone else's home) is much cheaper, I think around $6-$7 per hour.

Well today is the day!! I had a bit of a grey day yesterday but feeling great today... got up nice and early and put some washing on and stuff on the crockpot.... and Harry had a fab sleep! He either didn't wake at all, or he woke and I didn't hear him cos DH got up to him (that's the bonus of me working and DH being at home, yay).

So glad I had a good sleep and feeling good this morning
