Topic: Im miserable........ Posted: 07 July 2008 at 10:42am |
Beware before you read any further this is a total feel sorry for myself rant.............
I'm at home with three kids under 5 all by myself for the next 3 days my darling man is away at work till wednesday. I have an 18 day old baby and hyper active 3 and 4 year old, I have wicked toothache, no car cos my partners got it at work. Its wet and yucky outside so the kids are stuck inside trashing the house. Theres dirty dishes in the sink the floor needs a vacum. And to top it off I feel like a totally crap mother cos im sitting on the computer in between moderating toddlers and feeding baby.... rant over back to sorting out the kids.......................

Go easy on yourself.
So what if the house is a mess, who's going to know? I'd leave the housework till wednesday and try and relax and enjoy your time (I know easier said than done).
A few years ago when there were major floods in the north island I was stuck at home in my teeny tiny 2 bedroom townhouse with 2 toddlers. I didn't have a car either and couldn't have gone far anyway because of all the blocked roads in the region. What initially seemed a pretty daunting task (entertaining 2 kids with cabin fever) actually turned out to be heaps of fun.
We used the dining chairs to make a train and went on pretend trips. We made play huts with the chairs, boxes and sheets. At morning and afternoon tea time I'd prepare fruit and set up a shop and the kids had to come and 'buy' food from me.
The minute the rain stopped (even briefly) we'd wrap up warmly, pop our gumboots and parkas on and go for a quick trip around the block before the rain started again.
We read heaps of stories and the kids did lots of colouring in.
You could also do some baking with the kids (or just get them to ice some plain biscuits).
I don't envy you, you must be very tired with your nb too but forget the housework, sleep when you can and when the older two want to play have fun too.

I think its this weather - Us women need our VIt B12 - or else we get a wee bit down... well I know I do!
Chin up and as someone said - who cares baout the house work - its going nowhere - I knowt thats the problem - do the bare min and enjoy the kids - make some playdoh or finger paints go in the kitchen sit on the floor (nothing in the carpet then) and enjoy :-)

for the toothache the best thing, if you have it , is nurofen
but as for the housework , do what i do ...pretend you cant see it , dishes in the sink ? pah , theres only one cup ! etc
and your entitled to a few moments to yourself, so dont feel bad
This weather is horrible isnt it? really dampens the spirits , bring back summer i say !

lol I wish I had that attitude to the dishes..... I must admit I did do some of the dishes while bubs was asleep before, I have this queer thing where i feel more in control if things are clean - go figure.
I have got nurofen but didn't think you could take it when your breastfeeding, must go suss it out anything to make the pain go away.
Weather is crap but some sun at moment so gonna go get kids outside.
Thanks for the comments guys, making my day not feel so lonely, adult interaction even thru computer is a good thing.

where abouts in taranaki are you? (see no sun so must be no where near me LOL )
Perhaps after the school holidays join a play group - baby gym or manily music - parent centre playcentre..that sor t of thing - gets you out of the house and with adults and your kids can burn some energy off.
Have you taken advantage of the 20 free hours on offer for 3 and 4 year olds - just so you have time for you and your baby. don't feel guilty (a mother summed up with just that word 'guilty') to be a great mother you need to look after number 1 too

I think nurofen and bf is ok, it's ok with TTC. Voltaren is not. Codeine (in nurofen plus) is also not ok.
I hear you on this one, noodle! This time last year my DH went to Chch for work for 5 days straight. I really pined for him. I also found the evenings the hardest because he wasn't there to help me when I ran out of steam.
Best advice? Get out of the house! Go visit someone with kids, or a park, so that the tension can subside a bit. Leave the dishes for another day and you can do them little by little. Who knows, maybe in a helpful moment some of the kids could help?
Big hugs - it'll be over soon!

Yeah nurofen is ok in breastfeeding apparently which was good when it was working. Yeah nights are bad I stopped myself from crying all day, only to spend most of the phone call I just had with my partner in tears..... now hes worried about how im coping. I told him I was coping but it didn't mean I was enjoying the coping lol. The kids are being great had my four year old ask me if she could dry the dishes for me today .... made me smile.
Anyway bubs is asleep for the time being so off to bed for me, wishing for a better day tomorrow.
Night ladies, thanks for the support

I wish I had a license, I could come and visit and help. There is nothing worse than being in that rut If you are ever coming in town and not in a hurry, flick me a PM and come for coffee
