Topic: baby Bad Breath?????     Posted: 09 July 2008 at 9:55am |

Have you had this before?  Tom's breath is normally neutral and has no smell (unless he has had cat biscuits).  But last night when I went in to see a very upset little man at 10pm his breath was AWFUL!!!!  He does have a runny nose so I am thinking either he has a cold and maybe a throat infection or its teething.

He had this once before just after he had croup....again a cold and teething so I dont   know what is what.

I was going to take him to GP to check out his throat but his breath seems ok this morning and he is not overly upset.

Any ideas?

Oo I remember reading a thread in the toddlers section (I think from Bizzy??) that bad breath could be something to do with worms.... I will try to find it and bump it up....

Bumped, it's in the kindy and beyond section. I have *no* idea if babies can get worms, but it just reminded me of that post!

it can also be a sign of dehydration, esp if he is getting sick

   post nasal drip.

or also we get HEAPS of questions like this at work, so check theres nothing up his nose, eg sometimes if hes eating and sneezes things get stuck up their noses.
we had a 2yr old girl at work she had the foulest smelling breath, turns out it was a pea stuck in her nasal passage

my boys are the same at the moment with colds.
Also when DS#1 was small and his reflux was bad he seemed to have quite bitter smelling breath adn I remember reading that was related ot the refluxing. My boys seem to get their reflux back when sick, so could be that too?
hope he's better soon, it's rough when they're sick eh!
 all the best!
