ok
personally i really DO NOT like bartz dolls at all, and sarah is not allowd them which is just my preferance, i know other parents who are the same and i have no problem buying them as pressies for my friends kids.
but

ive just been told by a relative of mine that she thought it was " extremley rude of me" to add on the bottom of sarahs birthday invites and also tell people at christmas that i would appreciate it if people didnt buy her any of the bratz stuff.

i didnt think it was rude , as i didnt think it would be nice if someone did buy her it as sarah knows shes not allowd it anyway!

so was it rude or not???

Not rude, I was thinking about doing that with barbies. Luckily we didn't get any

No! I don't think its rude at all, so long as you phrased it as a polite request.
I've had invites requesting all kinds of things like 'No toys please" as the parents prefer books or donations to the kids bank accounts or another one requesting "No toy guns or weapons please"
Surely people would prefer you put things like that on the invitation than them unknowingly giving her a present she can't use.

Oh and btw, DH and I totally feel the same way about Bratz stuff, skanky and freakishly large heads! Ella's not having any either.

theres probably a nice way and a rude way to word those types of things..

like, for example...

"We are a Bratz free home - please respect that"

is polite

"Dont buy bratz we dont believe in them"

may be considered a bit rude....

Personally I would put no plastic toys etc, but I guess you might be ok with the rest of those... I'm sooo sick of all the junky plastic toys Seb has, Would much rather get home made things/books/little wooden toys.

I don't think there's anything rude about it - it seems a really good idea, come to think of it. Ella was given 3 Bratz... 2 of the 'baby' ones (not as offensive as the usual ones) and a 'normal' one, which is sitting in her cupboard until she's a little older, and I've gone out and bought it big puffy dorky princess dresses, like I feel little girl's dolls need, to replace the skanky outfit it came in.

i know - you should see the big pile of plastic that the MIL brought for tobys birthday yesterday.... its in the form of a huge plastic fire truck with plastic accessories that will break very soon and then will clog up the landfill...

My MIL is pretty bad for the plastic... but at least I think she will listen if we ask her not to buy that kind of junk for him (must remember to ask her! probably too late this year ) We've bought him a cute little wooden table and chair set this year, which should last him till he's 5-6, and will be usable for plenty more kids afterwards. My mum is great, doesn't even need to be asked, always buys him clothes/books/2nd hand things. (some of the 2nd hand things were a bit junky, like his play tent, and toddler bike, but they are also great toys and rather that than new rubbish)

Bahaha Kelly!

I hate Bratz dolls too, although I used to play with Barbies and never saw the harm in them. The whole 'impossibly perfect' thing never got to me at all.

Yeah those dolls are all skank. I don't think it's rude by stating it on your invite espcially if you worded it nicely .. but in saying that - depending on how I felt on the day and who had sent the invitation I may also think to myself "well really you should get what your given".. So yeah that depends on how many bitch pills I had that day

No its not rude,

But some people get really precious about being told what they should and shouldn't buy for presents.

I know there was a similar argument on the wedding forum about gift registries.

We are a big bratz free house too - we do have a couple of the baby ones which are fine.   We have gotten a couple of the bratz babys videos from the vid store (mike took them) and they were ok. but he let them get a big bratz vid the other day, and noooo way, i was no happy - it was soo inapparopriate. I was glad they lost interest.

Most of the parents i know share the same idea - and paris has asked a few times to buy ones for her friends - I told her that no, I would never buy something for someone elses child that i wouldn't buy my own - even if they apparently "were allowed them" - there are plenty of other things to buy kids.

Brooke (although older than most of the girls on here) has had Bratz dolls and loves them. She has never said she wanted to dress like them nor has she tried to make her clothes into bratz clothing look alikes.IIn fact like most of her dolls they lie clothes-less..I do see your point of view of them though

Actually Brooke said today she was growing out of her Bratz and doesn't play with them that much - Anyone want to buy some Bratz dolls LOL Kidding

We have Bratz and Barbies in this house...

Personally I think that they are just as bad as each other. Nyah knows that they aren't "real" she also knows that there is no way in heckens that she will ever be able to dress that way.

Bother sets of dolls have clothes that show the dolls mid section, strapless tops, short skirts etc.

I'm not going to stress about a doll, IMHO the kids see alot worse IRL.

I wouldn't have had a problem with a request like that for any particular item. I'm with ya'll on the Bratz dolls. Even the name - who wants to be a brat even, let alone the skankiness. Ugh.

I was brought up not allowed Barbie dolls because of the impossible perfect body thing, I don't think it really ever occurred to me as a kid anyway, and I certainly played with other girls' dolls. They were just another way of playing going shopping or mothers and fathers. So i don't have a problem with them, and at least they dress nicely!

But I do think that preschoolers (that's as far as I've got but probably a bit older?) should be having baby dolls, not grown-up dolls. It's what they seem to like best, anyhow.
