Topic: Arrgh ! Names ! Posted: 04 June 2006 at 4:09pm |
Ok so, we had the best of intentions when we started out, and even got it down to a shortlist - but that has since fallen apart and we can't decide on anything ! Nothing seems to fit, even the ones that we really liked before. I think we are starting to lean towards wanting to pick a name before she's born now, but are really struggling.
Anyway, just needed to vent really

LOL Thanks though Rach, that sounds like something I would have said to anyone else asking this question (and if I had already had a baby) LOL I mean, it still might not happen until when / after she's born but... like I mentioned we are leaning more towards wanting to pick a name beforehand *sigh*

you can always ask on here - i think heaps of people have.
Some other names we had picked were Jasmine, Veda (vay-da), opal, eden, Tamsyn, lilly, Anna, and coral.... but we like pretty different types of names.

did any take your fancy on the thread I started which was all girls names? I was really starting to worry about finding a name, I felt like once I knew she was a girl she had to have a name and identity if that makes sense

I know it's going to sound as lame as you can get, but we knocked Maddison off the list because a) someone we know has it b) our cat is called Maddison (Maddy for short). I even got out the really awesome baby names book we have, and got all the way up to the letter 'E' before DH finally agreed on liking one of the ones I'd picked out ! I've started a new list and am going to edit / add at will I guess, not sure how long it will take us to settle, I don't want it to be forever though. Oh, and the name DH said he liked as well was Erin.
Edited to add: Robyn - I know EXACTLY what you mean about the whole identity thing !!!!!

we settled on jack's name pretty early, about a week after we found out he was a boy. this time, we don't know what we're having and names are just not coming to us!
we have a boy name picked, but everyone lately is convinced i'm having a girl, incl DH.
our girl name we had for jack was mya zoey, but i'm not sure i like that anymore. i'd like to use zoey, but my parents now have a dog named that
anyway, i'm no help at all, good luck on your quest

vanessa my neice is maya (close to mya) and my nana was zoey so my sister has used it for a second name. I think both are cool names.

Maya had a name pretty early on, I named her after a poet (as you have all heard a thousand times lol) but the twins are posing a bit of a name problem! I feel like they need to have strong, meaningful names too, but there aren't any that come to me. I kind of like Chiara (Italian for Claire which is my sisters name) but know 2 Chiara's already (one spelt Kiara) but other than that no idea.
They will both have two English names and two Maori names like Maya, and teh bigger twin is going to be something-Mercedes something something but no idea what the 'somethings' will be yet, and the smaller twin still has no names at all.

Jax - I ended up with no idea what to name Hannah when I went into labour. I had a whole lot of names that I thought were really cool, but then would go off them a while later. I ended up naming her with Hannah, which was the only name that I didn't despise by the end of it. It's not a very romantic way of naming your child, but in the end she just looked like a Hannah.
Maybe by the time you get there you'll have a name you don't hate too!! (Gosh I'm helpful tonight )

I love Sophia!
Peter and I went through 2 names books (one German one English ) and still only came up with a handful of names that we both liked. We didn't know what we were having though which made it harder I guess too.

We still like it, and it's still in consideration, but is not leading as strongly as it was before (Sophia). And GAH ! I read about Miss Halliwell's naming thing... what a bubblehead ! Want something strong, but feminine, unique but practical... aaaaaaaaaaargh !
