Faffer - take folic acid now. Its recommended to take it at least a month before conception (preferably 3) and for at least the first 12 weeks.
Milo1 - I took folic for about 12 weeks. I stopped at 11w4d as that is the day when I thought I'd lost the baby. I had a scan at 11w6d and showed baby was ok and the nucal was all good so stopped taking it. I don't bother with any other supplements as I feel that the best source is food and I have a wide variety.

I have just started elevit, Has anyone tried the blackmore pregnancy and breastfeeding tablets?? - it has the fish oil in it. I was tossing up between the two and thought I would try elevit for a month and then see after that.

Snooze I was the same too. Wasnt too sure which one to take as well, but I read the label and you have to take 2 tablets a day which I couldnt be bothered with. There is also only 500 ug (or what ever that thingy is) of Folic Acid and Im sure the recommended amount is 800.

Crikey, I take a plethora of supplements!!!
I started taking folic acid when I was trying to ovulate. I got a prescription from my GP, as I was prescribed enough for 9 months. And the good thing was that it only cost $3
I've also been taking Thompsons Pregnacare, Thompsons Organic Iron, Flaxseed Oil, Spirulina, and Thompsons Ester-C.
I am a vegetarian, so I have always been careful in ensuring that I get enough in my diet.

For all of you spending sh*tloads on elevit. Don't! All elevit is is a general pregnancy multi with folic acid. The folic acid you can get from your docs on script - 3 months supply for $3 and you can get a general pregnancy multi for much cheaper than elevit.

The only thing that concerns me about blackmores is it has tuna oil in it and not sure if thats been mercury tested. Tunas a bit dodge.
Haven't seen or heard of a good all round preg multi with 800 folic.
Was taking the $3 folic but switched to Elevit.

My naturopath said the same thing Kebakat, its damn expensive for what it is.
She put me on natal plus and I also take an extra folic acid (just a red seal one with nothing else in it)
The natal plus has everything in it, but the oils (which I try to eat enough omega etc) and later in pg she will give me an extra omega supp for brain development I think.
I reckon go to your local naturopathy college and get a student consultation then its cheap and you can check what you are taking is enough/correct

rianna08, how come you only take vitex and evening primrose up to CD1? I've been popping vitex daily for about 6 months – is this bad?

I took the little folic acid tablets while TTC, then elevit for the first tri (just because it was on special and with morning sickness I couldn't handle taking 2 tablets a day). Then just the Thompson's pregnacare (which I am still taking when I remember).

Treen I take EPO and/or Vitex from CD1 - CD 14/15 (ov) as your apparently not supposed to take it when your Pg. If your not TTC then you should be ok by taking it all the tme.
Im just hopeful every month that I will fall Pg so I dont take it in the 2ww

I started taking folic acid 4 months before we conceived DD. Got it on prescription from the Dr, so much cheaper. I stopped taking it at about week 18. My MW told me you can stop at 12 wks but as I was still bleeding up to week 17 I was really paranoid and kept taking it.
I also took fish oil capsules every day until 12 wks, then after that just included plenty of fish in my diet i.e. tinned tuna, salmon.
DH took a mens multivitamin everyday while TTC, with zinc, to help build strong little swimmers

Okay, thanks Rianna, I think I might switch to maca then. I wonder what vitex does if you take it when you're pregnant?

No problem . Perhaps (and Im fully guessing here lol) it has something to do with the balancing of hormones thats not good in Pregnancy.
This is what it says on Wiki:
"It is recommended that Vitex agnus-castus be avoided during pregnancy due to the possibility of complications."
