I've done it but just got the books and did it myself, didn't actually go to meetings. It worked really well for me. I think its a great system - you can eat whatever you want - but if you indulge in something then you'll have to cut back later (or maybe just have veges for tea!) Even though I didn't go to the meetings I think they'd be good to go to - when I did it I was living with someone else who was on it to so made it easier to follow, would be harder if you were doing it alone and with no meetings.
Oh and I lost I think 8kg doing it (but that's all I needed to lose), dh lost about 20kg. No doubt I'll be back onto it when this baby comes out!

I was an online member, loved it! I dont need the group meeting thing but I know some people like t be accountable to someone.. you know helps keep them on the straight and narrow
I loved the freedom of being able to eat what I wanted, I was a shocker in the UK though, I used to save up my points so I could go out drinking on the weekend... vodka and diet coke were my staples friday/saturday lol!
I really recommend it, cant give you much info on the meetings as such but will definately going back on it once bubs is born!

Yeah I found WW good. I joined back in High school....when I actually didn't need to!. In recent years I've just followed the books, and go on the WW forums...you can register on there for free and you get plenty of info from other members. They have a new plan out now..which kinda phases both the points and core plan together. I still try and eat by WW rules. Will start tracking my food again in the new year.

I found it fantastic. When I did it properly a few years back I lost nearly 50kg in a year. It was really easy and not once did I feel like I was missing out.
I really want to join again, but with being a SAHM I don't really have $18 a week spare- plus with a toddler in tow I don't know how much I would actually get out of a meeting.
I did find that I needed to go and sit through the meeting to keep my motivation up though.
Oh, and the meetings were great. Really fun and informative. Not anything like you imagine from TV. They just talked about the topic that week, and then usually had a question time etc where you could talk about your week if you wanted too. The enviroment was really good and you weren't pressured to tell how much you weighed/lost etc.
Check out the WW website for meeting locations. The joining fee is around $33 plus the meeting fee of $17.90 a week at the moment. They may have a deal after New Years though.
Good Luck

Kool! I had this phobia like I had to get weighed in front of people or something actually I wouldn't care about strangers knowing BUT I don't want DF to know... the last time I stepped on a scale in front of him it read 60.2kg..... I need to lose like 40kg to get back to that, not that I ever will I guess around 30kg should be my mark? I just need some help, im tired of struggling on my own. Wonder if I could be 2009 slimmer of the year??
Mum2 Sam you are amazing, seriously 50kg is amazing, well done! So you must have lost 1 kg a week? That's what I am aiming for.
Looks like everyone has positive experiences with WW, $17.90 isn't too bad considering we buy takeaways once a week which is $20+, actualli I don't care how much this costs me I'm worth it
Thanks ladies

I liked it mostly but I got sick of figuring out the points for the food I ate. I couldn't really do the core plan being a vege the food was sucky lol.. but points was ok. However I felt I got hungry quite easy but that might be because I am a vege.

yeah im looking at the points plan, I have already recorded heaps of recipes with the points already there, I guess it would be hard doing it as a vege...
How many points were you girls allowed?

i loved ww and would love to go back but it IS expensive. One thing I hated about it (well more about me) - turns out I lose weight reeeeaaaalllllly slowly. i was expecting the 1kg a week, and I got more like 200g a week. I would follow the plan EXACTLY and still lost very slowly. got depressing cause some people would lose like 1.5kg in a week and I would be giving them (secret) glares and think "why not meeeee?".
Now I am losing weight again through the healthy food guide 10 steps programme, and I just keep in mind that I am the type of person who loses slowly (but puts on quickly - always the way - sigh) and now I'm aiming at .5kg a week.

Aww slow weight loss sucks. I lost weight a couple of years back doing fast burner lol was about 28kg's in 3 months. CrAzy. but now im older and wiser, had babies and became a sahm I know that isn't healthy The fortunate thing is I have alot o lose so the first chunk (they said) she come off reasonably easy and im still young... apparantly these are all good things.
I PUT it on quick too though, have gained 4kg over xmas goodness knows how, but I have always been like that... so depressing but at least I know I can lose as well.
It will be a bit more expensive with DF doing it as well but then again he buys lunch some days as well which is an extra $30ish... I guess if we were on a tight budget it may be pricey? ATM we just waste money

You can buy the books off trade me. If you already know how it works then following the plan does work.

I did WW online for about 6 weeks whilst taking a break from TTC...and I *loved* it! I lost about 3-4 kilos, which was most of what I wanted to lose....I actually only did it to take my mind off charting etc lol
When I fell pg, I emailed them and they immediately refunded the difference of what I had spent- came to about $40 back I think? After I've given birth and settled down with bubs I fully intend to sign up again with the online program to lose any weight that BF doesn't get rid of!
I'm also a vegetarian and found I could eat a little more, although one thing that did annoy me slightly was that I had to be really careful with things like avocado and flaxseed oil, cos they are high in (good) fats....but because WW only seems to recognise 'fat' and calories...they still add to your total points, even though they are a great source of omega 3 and fibre etc.....which are important as a vege!

this is going to sound silly but at *this* time of the year..... what alcohol is allowed I mean what is low in points? Someone told me rum n diet coke is 1.5 points? I guess they will give me this info at my first meeting.
Emmecat that's a great weight loss especiallly if you didn't have much to lose! i love avocado's... bummer lol no avocado and crackers
im glad everyone has had great experiences with them my mind has been put at ease. im just spending the last few days preparing myself and giving away junk out of my cupboard lol

I was allowe 21 points a day when i started. I started in March weighing 86kg and by November weighed 61kg. I looked freaking great That was in 2003 though, and I was 23 so easy to loose.
I did find when I joined here the points were slightly different to the UK, there a vodka and diet coke was 0.5 points, here it is 1 point.
I was very upset about that, lol.

I've been a WW girl for years. You don't have to count points any more if you don't want to as they have points free plans.
It's $18.00 a week for a once a week weigh and meeting. Although you do weigh in front of other people, no one else actually sees your totals as it's displayed only to person who is recording it in your book.
You can choose to buy the WW products but you don't have to. I found them very expensive and you can always find cheaper options sometimes with even less saturated fat and KJ count.
I guess I liked going to the meetings as it was something that kept me on track. Knowing I had to stand up and see those numbers really helped me stay on the plan (which you pretty much design yourself withing limits that they give you).
WW isn't about handing you a plan and saying eat this food in this quantity at this time. The are guidelines and systems that help you stay within the boundries but it teaches you to do this yourself so you can keep the weight off afterwards. I guess that's why I prefer to WW to things like J.Craig with the preprepared meals.
I started at 86kg (only 5ft tall) and got down to 60kg. I varied between 60 and 67 for the last 3-4 years always knowing I had the ability to keep it low if I needed to. I'll be going back as soon as my body is ready to get back to semi normal after bubs arrives. I'm going to see how BF goes before I decide when I'll start back at meetings.

I did it about 6 years ago and it was really good. I lost 17kg and I have maintained it since, even after 2 babies . Going to the meetings and going with a friend is really good - keeps you honest and motivated. .
Two quick tips that may help until you start:
- if you think you are hungry have a drink of water, you are probably thirsty and
- if you are thinking about eating and it is not really time to eat, check the time and go away and do somthing else for 15 mins and you will probably forget for a lot longer!

I also found it easier to avoid grazing by preparing a few vegie snacks like carrot sticks at night while I was cooking. Then they would be easy and quick when I was hungry the next day. Stopped me from grabbing that quick Peanut butter sammy or a piece of cheese and crackers. WW have lots of tips like this that help. I don't see the point in doing plans that don't teach you along the way so you can keep it up after you stop paying.
