Topic: Boobs on Bikes Posted: 19 August 2008 at 1:41pm |
What is your opinion on this???
I am quite happy for it to go ahead, if I was in Auckland I would probably go down to Queen Street to watch it.
I honestly don't see the big fuss about it, if you don't want to see them don't look.

Hahaha, i was gonna start a thread about this too.
I don't care either way. I wouldn't go and watch and i think it is a little sad that so many men turn up just to see some boobs but I don't think it warrants being banned.
On the TV the other day a lady was saying that if it was to raise money for Herceptin or to promote breastfeeding she would be in support of it but as it is she doesn't see it as necessary but also not so bothered she would protest against it. Pretty much summed up my feelings on it too.
The guy presenter said he wasn't interested cos all the boobs are fake anyway...lol

Lots of things in this world are unnecessary - but we have to pick our battles wisely.
Personally, not offended - they're *just* boobies ~shrug~
So, it doesn't bother me in the least. Even if they do happen to be 'enhanced', they're still part of a woman's natural anatomy, and if you're comfortable showing them off to that many people - good for you.

I don't care. I think those who don't like it just need to learn not to watch it. If I was up there I'd go have a look to see what the fuss was all about.

I'm not a fan of it! Boobs, yep, they're great to have and all, but I'm just not a fan of showing them off to that extent!

Well at the risk of getting flamed I'm gonna go against the grain and say it really bothers me... if I was in town with my child, I would find it really hard to explain to them and to tell the truth I really would be angry that they had seen that. It's done in a very 'adult' way and should not be in a public place where there could be children around. Sure yeah don't go if you don't wanna see it, but what about those people who haven't heard anything about it and don't know about it?? I'm thinking of tourists to NZ etc, or people who maybe don't speak English or just live with their head in the sand and don't watch the tv or read newspapers.
It makes me really angry that if I was walking down the street topless I'd get arrested for indecent exposure, yet a whole heap of women in sexual clothing on the back of motorbikes will not?!?! Is that not more indecent exposure?! And I remember a protester outside parliament a few years ago getting arrested because she was topless. How is that any different?!
Sorry it's just one of those things that gets to me.....

Seeing boobs in public doesn't bother me at all - it's the shameless free advertising that Steve Crow has been able to get at the cost of Auckland rate payers!!!! Not to mention the nightmare traffic jam that it causes!
Do it somewhere where it's not going to cause traffic jams and to waste valuable police time.

Does Steve Crow's Show really need the extra advertising?? Probably not as all those who follow will all know about it anyways.
I agree with Arohanui & George and would like to add that it does not set a good example for our daughters (or sons for that matter). It portrays women as objects and teaches our young boys disrespect for women. I don't think I would like it if it were my daughter out there displaying her body in that manner.
If you think it's great and don't mind then ok. I feel quite strongly about it though. My take on it is if this is "ok" today, what on earth is "ok" tomorrow?

According to the stuff article it's not illegal.

Sorry but I'm with Arohanui, george and sunnyhoney on this...I don't have a problem with the expo but as for the parade I don't like it and don't see the need the for it. Granted I don't have to look at it but as someone else said...what about people who don't know that it is going on.
And I know I would not want Miss M out there displaying herself like that.

I think it's disgusting. Not boobs themselves, but a public, in-your-face exhibition of it. Get real, if it's not to attract sexual interests then what is?? What would bug me the most is if I had to take the kids into town on a boobs parade day and for them to see that. It ought to be limited to TV after 8.30pm.

(1) Every person is liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 3 months or a fine not exceeding $2,000 who, in or within view of any public place, intentionally and obscenely exposes any part of his or her genitals.
(2) It is a defence in a prosecution under this section if the defendant proves that he or she had reasonable grounds for believing that he or she would not be observed.
Compare: 1927 No 35 s 47; 1967 No 154 s 2(1)
Section 27 was amended, as from 1 January 1998, by section 7 Summary Offences Amendment Act 1997 (1997 No 97) by substituting the expression "“$2,000”" for the expression "“$1,000”". |
If anyone arrests you for walking down the street topless, you can rightly tell them to get lost and laugh in their face.
Anyone else find it weird that not many guys are complaining about women going topless? I think it's mostly some women or older men who complain about it.

I think it is appalling. i'm pretty liberal but breasts are being exposed for a sexual reason - do it in private, or where people can chose to go or not, not in a public area.
As for the guy on talkback today who said it was no different from women being able to breastfeed where-ever they want....pfffft

That guy is an idiot.
Breastfeeding is a completely different purpose, and is looking after the child.
Men who complain about breastfeeding women should go and get some pirate patchs (two) and be made to walk around in the streets... "ooo what if I see that 16 year breastfeeding her kid??!?!?" Come on. What idiotic male complains about breastfeeding women?
Theres been such a stink about breastfeeding that many women are ashamed of a perfectly natural nurturing function, and any male who complains about that should get over their own ego.
Boobs on bikes is another matter entirely as the Sex Expo, and parade is nothing more than to show the sensual side of boobs, and that, I believe, is the wrong way of doing it. For example, if a guy is trying to keep himself for his wife (and how many women want their guy to themselves?---most of them dont want to share their guys - right ladies?) having an open air strip show is difficult for that guy to not look.
Men like breasts. Plain fact. I like breasts. I like looking at breasts. I try to stick to looking and enjoying my wifes only, but in this world that is difficult to keep to.
Of course, all the guys who go to that parade are there for the bikes....

I'm not happy about it for the same reasons the other ladies gave, about having to explain that to a young child. But on the other hand there's that constant evil called "freedom of speech".
I wonder if a parade, organised by women, of hunky guys wearing nothing but a tiny leather thong would be alllowed? (or even stir up as much publicity? You can't pay for advertising like this!!!)
And as for anyone having issues with women breast feeding in a public place - get over it! I think it is the most natural and selfless thing for a mother to do and the only reason that guy has an issue with it is because he has turned that nurturing act into something perverse and crude!
