    Posted: 29 January 2009 at 11:55am

I thought it was about time I was honest with myself and see how much I weigh.  I know I'm overweight and HATE it, I've never been this big before and I'm so embarressed to go out in public, but I *hide* the truth about how much I actually weigh by avoiding the scales!  The last time I weighed myself was a few months back, and I've been eating terribly over the holidays.

So before my shower this morning I hopped on the scales.  I've put on 2 kgs!    I'm feeling soo upset now.  I didn't think I my diet was that bad, I know a lot of people eat worse and are skinny skinny!  Since I've had Jett I've continuely put on weight, it's so depressing, I've gone from a size 16 when pg, to a tight 18.  The thing is, is that my whole body carries the weight, some people only carry it in their lower half, or only in their hips/waist, but for me it's all over.  I can't belive how skinny I used to be before I had kids.  I truely truely just feel so down about it now.  I think too because my 2 older sisters are super skinny now, even after having their children so I feel like the ugly step-sister next to them.

I know I'm going to have to work so hard to get rid of this excess fat.  I just wish I could click my fingers and it would be gone!  I know I can change my diet, but getting back into excerise is going to be tough.

So sorry for the woe is me post, I just am so down now, and I don't want to moan to my family or friends about it, as they wouldn't understand being that they're all size10!  I would be happy to get to a size 12 and be fit, but it's a long road ahead!

Hi Italiah

I didn't want to read and run so thought I would just give you a
I kind of know how you feel, about 8yrs ago I studied overseas for a semester and was quite homesick. I came back with heaps of photos and an extra10kg or so . It took a while but I finally decided to do something about it and Mum and I joined weight watchers which I found really good. I HATE exercise and managed to drop all the weight without really doing any. My trick was cutting down on my meal sizes and trying to be more careful with what I ate.

Anyway, I feel for you!

I know how you feel, pre daniel I was a tight 12, post Daniel I was a 16/18 and approx 90kg. With work I shed 20kg but I can see it creeping back on with this pregnancy again. It's going to be another hard lot of work once this pregnancy is done!

Oh I am so there with you. I carry all my weight around my middle so I look permanently pregnant and I used to be able to drop it easily but not since I had Rowan.

I wish I could make that weight disappear instantly too - I'd love to be able to fit into my old clothes.

I know exactly where you're coming from

I used to be a size 18 (pre pg) and went to WW. Stayed in a size 10-12 for quite a few years. I've gained about 25 kgs this pg and I know it's going to be tough afterwards.

I always found that starting a structured plan made the depression ease as I knew I was doing something about it. If you're in a position to do something like WW then I would highly suggest you go for it. You start feeling better about yourself as soon as you start which feeds the drive to continue.

I know how you feel Italiah, and I know it sucks.

My niece told me a couple of weeks ago that I look like I'm having a baby...... awesome.

Maybe we do all need to have some sort of plan....

You're not alone. My older sister, who was always way bigger than me, gave me the clothes she is now too small for at Christmas, and I just wanted to cry.

I was size 12 before Daniel, and now am size 16. I look at myself in the mirror and hate how I look. My togs shopping expedition the other day ended in tears. It didn't really motivate me to stay on track with WW, it just made me want to comfort eat :s

I also want the magic cure, and the thought of having #2 and going through this again sometimes makes me all depressed.

I've been doing WW by myself (loveTM) for about 3 weeks, and I have lost about 3 cm from each of my waist, bum and thighs. I'm just doing it gently, but I figure that I'm eating less and exercising more, so it has to work. Come join us in the weight loss thread.

- you can do it even though it probably feels just too hard at the moment.

It is really horrible when it hits you . I had it about 6 years ago and did WW with a friend. Do you have anyone who you can do a challenge with? I found it was so much easier to set out on the road with my friend. She didn't have so much to shift as me but having someone to go to the meeting with each week kept me honest and motivated. Good luck and chin up - think how fab you will look next summer!!

Thanks for all your encouraging words!  I have done WW in the past (after a few kgs crept on after getting married) and I know it works, but for me, it's sticking to it.  My DH wants to lose weight as well, so I know that if we both did WW I'd have him for support and he's a stronger-minded person than me and wouldn't give up til he was at his preferred weight.  I need to lose at least 20 kgs to be healthy again.  I was on Jenny Craig when I fell pg with Jett, and that's an easy diet being that majority of the food is prepared for you, you just have to eat it.  But it's soo expensive!  I probably wouldn't do it again either.

I know you can do WW online now, and that would be perfect, as I hated going in for the weigh-in's every week.

For me, when I think about how my life was before marriage and children, I pretty much ate what I wanted, but I was really active.  So since I've become inactive with physical activity, but still eat what I want, my metabolism is non-exsistant.

I'm going to start with small changes, as I know losing weight is a lifestyle change so I need to make changes that I can keep up with and are realistic.  Starting to drink water daily and at least 8 cups of it, and leaving what should be treat food for only one day in the weekend (instead of having a treat food everyday) should help a bit.

Also what I've picked up from when I've been on diets - is that your food is never the same each day.  Like normally my breakfast consists of a coffee and toast - everyday.  I've been making myself smoothies with low-fat milk, banana and yoghurt which is yummy and really keeps me full all morning.  But I need to change how much bread I eat (as bread is high in carbs and a lot of diets don't include bread), and up my fruit intake.  I eat veges for dinner every night, and meat.  I guess my choice in snacks needs a make-over.  No muesli bars, chippies etc.  That's where I can and should be eating fruit instead.

Flissty, when I've been clothes shopping in the last year it makes me even more depressed about how fat I am.  The clothes just don't sit on me properly, and the range is just not my style a lot of the time.  Size 10 clothes just don't look good in size 18.  Because I have broad shoulders and my arms are fat I hate wearing singlets, when that's all I want to be able to wear in this hot weather.

Arohanui, that's soo upsetting isn't it when someone asks/thinks your pg when you're not.  I haven't been asked if I'm pg recently, but about 4 months after Jett was born a shop assistant asked if I was.  I know my tummy is still big after having Jett and I could easily pass for being 6 months pg!

About Feb last year I joined the gym along with a friend (who was only a sz 8 then), thinking we could go together and she would be my buddy.  But after the first week going together, she just started going on her own and not telling me so I'd end up having to go by myself, and after 3 months I took a break from the membership for 3 months, and didn't really get back into it from then.  I know it's not my friend's fault for me not going, but I was under the pretense that we would be going together and I knew I would always go if that was the case.  This friend doesn't have children so I guess she would just decide to go to the gym and get up in go, whereas I had to work about when DH was home, or have to get a babysitter.

Argh!! I could have written that. Isn't it the worse - when you are one size physically but in your head you are smaller and when you shop you look at clothes you like and that are your style and then go all the way to the back of the rack to see if they actually have it in an 18 and you go woohoo when they do and then you try it on and it looks AWFUL!!! I hate it. Its the worse. I can't wait for my body to catch up with my brain. For inspiration to stick to my diet and exercise I often go looking at shops I actually do like and look at what I would actually buy and it makes me determined to stick to making better food choices. I started out with 26kgs to lose and understand your feeling like its just way too much. I find that breaking it down in my head to 10% lots makes it easier not to focus on the big number. Focusing on 2.6kg loss is heaps easier on my head. I have a photo in the kitchen on the fridge of me at my normal weight to remind me to make good choices when i'm in the kitchen. I find that photo helps. Stick with it and think that by next summer you will be in your singlets and short shorts feeling like a million bucks.

Im exactly the same...when my hubby and I started dating I was 45kgs and since kids Ive gone up to a tight sz 18. I used to be the skinny sister and the skinny friend, now Im the fatty and I dread running into people I havent seen for ages because I know they will all be thinking crap she has gained heaps of weight so I just avoid going out if possible.
Ive tried WW and just gained teh weight back, I tried the gym and didnt loose anything so Ive joined up with the gym in my building where I work and for 20 a week I also get two sessions training with a personal trainer plus all the nutrition advice etc... its a 15 week challange so Im hoping this will get me started or I dont know what I will do.

This is exactly me.  I too hate seeing people that I haven't seen in a long time as I KNOW they'll be thinking how much weight I've put on.  At a family function a few weekends back, we took some photos of me and my siblings and my 2 sisters and brother look fantastic and I just look hidious!!!  There is one I accidentally took (I was trying to show my cousin how to use my camera) and just happened to snap a perfect photo of my 3 siblings and it's a gorgeous one, and then I look at the one of me in it and I ruin the pic!!  My self confidence is next to none right now.

I know exactly how you feel chick! I gain so much with the twins and it was really getting me down in the dumps. Especially when I knew summer was coming up and all the little skanks in their boob tubes and mini skirts would be parading around in no time
I jumped on the scales one week and realised in seven days I had gained 2kg!!! I freaked. Its taken 7 months, Jenny Craig and 2hrs of walking 5 times a week to get back to my former weight and the dispaointing thing is even though I'm back to my oringinal weight everything fits differently because my entire shape has changed So I think alot of women here can sympathise hun

You'll get there in time and when your ready. I hope you feeling better, big hugs your way

ok I will admit I didn't read all the replies so I am sorry in advance if its already been said:

firstly its suxs puttin gon weight

Now what i am doing as although my dress size hasn't gone up = the scales have... I put on 3kgs (plus) over winter and now I am going for run/walks to try and take that off and some. I am going with the training of run 2 powerpole spaces, walk 2 powerpole spaced for around 20 each weekday (weeks off as don't get the chance with out kids) I go about 8pm so its cooler but still nice to go out and light. Now I have done it for 2 weeks and hopped on the scales and was very upset that I had gone 'UP' a kg grrrr..... but I put it down to muscle being heavier than fat (its my therioery and I am sticking with it LOL anything to make me feel better)

after i had Rhylz and started back at work we did a biggest loser challenge and I won... woohooo I lost 6kgs.. doing... portion sizes, I cut down on my meal sizes and it worked.

Also and its not that i promote them but i also don't see anything wrong with it if you use them for the right reasons - Diet pills.. being a size 18 you should be able to get some off your doctor (I hear they give you energy too but once again i am not promoting them... ) I tried the ones that had the Bzp in them.... they did work or at least helped but theydont sell them now.

Aww
Even though it's really only "light exercise", one thing DH and I were doing on a regular basis was leaving our kids with a sitter and going on walks/treks. It's fun when you have someone to do it with, and having sitters arranged just makes you do it! We did babysitting swaps (ie they would look after our girls once per week/fortnight on a Saturday morning and we would look after their girl on a Friday evening while they went out on a date) so it didn't cost us anything either.
